:p

Does Paul's VRS have parking sensors? :p

If it did, and if there were sensors on the corner pointing at 45 degrees, and if you could run them "on" permanently, it would have told me it was there - there is no other way I could have seen him :( That is if it wouldn't have been fooled by the GT3 behind me or the XTR that I knew about.

It's OK Ian - I'm on your side really. They are bloody low, and Octys have crap rearward vision. Maybe some extra mirrors are in order for track days ?

Or glasses ;)

Re the XTR

You've mentioned it already but its worth saying it again - Its the sheer SPEED on track of the XTR that makes it so difficult to look out for when it sits so low down.

I've only 'shared' a track once with one and fortunately that was at an airfield. The closing speed was such that you only had to be concentrating on a) The current bend and B) the car ahead; and it was suddenly 'there'. Mind you, I was in a diesel at the time

I've thought about this, bearing in mind the helmet and harnesses, and the large rear wing \ GT3 directly behind, the central rear mirror was useless, and probably would have been too high anyway.

The side mirrors, I could have angled downwards to spot smaller machinery, but this would have removed the depth of view (that enabled me to see the XTR behind the GT3, even tho the GT3 driver hadn't) or less chance of seeing larger machinery until the last minute.

(or, quite possibly, would have had more luck in an estate as it has far better rearward vision)

Sounds like the XTR needs on of those 'flags' which Waitrose fits to childrens' trolley to make them more visible to adults. :(

But then you wouldn't have had the GT3 behind you ;)

Ah, I see you point :D

Denis, yes, some sort of dodgem car post with a tennis ball or flag could be a good idea, there was a lot of nr misses with the XTR, assume the same with the caterfields.

I was lucky I managed to clock the XTR, it was the even smaller caterfield slipstreaming it that I doubt anyone could have seen.

Rob, next time you say "but all my posts are worthwhile"........... ;)

Post-value is a very subjective thing... :D

Rob.

Unlikely Ian :D

On a serious note, could you bring me a couple of external Briskoda.Net stickers on Saturday. Cash OK?

Pre-owned ones peppered with multiple stone chips to match your car's finish, Jon, or new ones? Good to see that you are going to adorn your car at long last......or am I making an unwarranted assumption? rolleyes.gif

Not sure if we have any externals left - will bring what we have anyway.

Ta. Would be nice to have at least one on my car

you would think so.

back to topic..

the tyres are gone... on to set number 2!

Ian

That was a great write up of what was a great day - by the sound of it.

Were there any muppets in a BMW there by any chance -- I'm thinking red older model -- with the driver apparently getting black flagged ??

Just wondered - 1 of my work "Collegues" claims his mate was there - all I can say if he was is "Oh dear" - I've unfortunately seen the way he & his "Mates" drive --- Wan*!rs !

Yes, there was an older BMW - 535, seen smoking in the pits after first session but obviously fixed it and went out again.

They were "having fun" on track with silly powerslides etc, but they only seemed to do this when in free space to do it, so good luck to them. I did hear a lot of the other drivers were not best pleased with them, but I just gave them space, made sure they saw me and indicated, then went round them.

I didn't know they had been black flagged tho, possibly not totally surprised.
