Callipers sent back to warranty company

Featured Replies

Odd this one I'm thinking.

I bought my VRS estate 2 months ago. Horrendous squeaky brakes in and out of garage then finally got the warranty company (came with 3 month) to replace the rear callipers and brake discs - didn't pay for all of the parts and labour mind - short £70 odd.

So I thought I'll take the old ones and the discs had already been replaced and sell them on eBay to make back the shortfall and the hours labour before xmas to try and fix.

Picked up the car yesterday and the garage said that the callipers need to go back to the warranty company? I need to see what's happened with the discs as only had less than 1k miles on them.

This sound right or is the garage thinking what I'm thinking?

The car is now spot on now though  no embarrassing noise.

it is probably correct that the company would want them returned to prevent false claims, but why would you sell potentially faulty parts to anyone? if they are not good enough for you then they are not good enough for anyone else.

Best regards to all.

Totally normal for any type of warranty claim, if your fridge freezer failed and was replaced under warranty would you expect to keep the old one? No.

If they were faulty - obviously were, then you couldnt try to sell them. that would be in breach of, if nothing else, a basic moral code of practice...

i had an mp3 player break 1 month before the end of a 5 yr warranty... i didnt get to keep it when they replaced it.

the only reason i kept my old ruined discs instead of letting the garage chuck them for me, when i got them changed before xmas was because i realised they were ideal wheelie bin weights to stop them blowing open in rough weather.

We can only presume the garage has declared the calipers as not serviceable if they've changed them for new ones and are carrying out on a warranty claim. So, I really hope you informed any potential buyers they needed repaired before fitting them. Especially important with brakes!!

Why couldn't they be sold as long as it was made clear they were only suitable for refurbishment?

That is normal they have replaced them as they were faulty.

The faulty parts need to back to be checked.

Sorry should have said from the start that they just need refurbished - they are not faulty or broken.

Obviously I would have said this in my ad. I would not be happy with them going to the skip as the callipers just need some TLC and the discs were almost brand new. Because of the warranty everything gets replaced. The warranty company is not going to pay for multiple hours labour to refurb.

Ok this does sound normal. Even more out of pocket then but the car sounds and drives better now so I'm happy

They may even go back and get remanufactured.

Most calipers get refurbed so chances are the warranty company would have to pay a surcharge for the calipers. This would then be refunded when the old units are returned. Standard for most parts suppliers even some dealers need the old parts back.
