this is my first post so hello.

could any one please tell me where the ballasts are located when they were fitted at the factory. I have just got hold of some genuine ones for a nice price of 300 :)complete but the right side head light does not a have a holder whereas the left has one. does anyone know if the right side is ment to have a holder or does it go somewhere else

They go on the back of the headlight's. Sound's like you've been supplied a pair of headlight with no ballast's to me.

Correct.

 

Under the slam panel on the right side because the boost pipe is too close. Look under the panel and you'll see a recess for the ballast to sit.

Fair enough I only say that because mine are located on the back of the headlight's.

 

I've just had a quick look and they are as you say, the right hand is located behind the slam panel, and the left is located behind the headlight.

Reviving the thread a little I know, but i've also just managed to grab myself a set of genuine xenons.

 

Picking up on Fletchs comment above, does anyone know what the part number is at all for this little cage the ballast fits into? Had a look on my car today and can see the recess in the slam panel, but doesn't seem a very secure way of fitting it...

Anyone?

Currently got the bumper off mine to fit the genuine xenons, but for the life of me can't seem to get these ballasts to sit within the recess...

Think I've finally cracked it! Been having a look on VAG CAT briefly this evening and it appears there are many different front panels available dependent on features fitted to the car.

 

Appears the front panel on cars fitted with factory fit xenons is different to those not fitted with them, hence the reason why I was having difficulty.

 

If anyone's interested, I believe the front panel that is capable of housing the ballast is part number: 6Y0805588P and can imagine it's going to be silly money!

Think I'll be sticking with wedging the ballast between the fuel filter housing and boost pipe I reckon!

Do you have any photos showing the difference front panels?

I personally don't, but I'm sure that someone on here who has factory fit xenons would be able to post up a piccy showing the ballast cage
