Hi all,

I own a 2020 Skoda Octavia with the Amundsen MIB2 navigation system. I'm trying to update my maps to ECE 2025 using the official Skoda Update Portal.

I downloaded the package linked to my VIN, but the archive only contains the maps folder. There is no metainfo.txt or info.txt which means the car doesn't recognize the update when I insert the SD card.

I have the original Skoda SD card with license and I'm following the standard process.

Has anyone successfully updated to ECE 2025 on an Amundsen MIB2?
Can anyone share a working archive or the required metainfo2.txt file for ECE 2025?

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps not a useful reply, but I have recently given up updating the maps twice a year and now use Android auto with google maps on my 2019. Wish I'd done it earlier.

Makes sense, but I’d still like to get the built-in nav working. I don’t always want to connect my phone via USB just to use Android Auto, especially for short drives.

Yup. I tried to download from there as well, but it only gives me the maps folder. No metainfo.txt or info.txt.

Which map version are you downloading? What unzipping software are you using?

I downloaded the AS version from there and it's all good.

I downloaded the ECE 2 and ECE 6. Both had only maps folder. I tried both WinRAR and 7zip.

If you've backed up the old files before deleting them on the card, how about copying over the 2 missing files and see what happens?

Unfortunately i didnt back them up. :(

I can confirm that the metainfo.txt is definitely NOT needed so that's not your issue. I've never used it when I've updated my Amundsen MIB2 maps and I've never had an issue so your problem must lie elsewhere. I know this is obvious but I will re-iterate the following just in case. Firstly, with an Amundsen unit you can only use an official Skoda/VW sd card to use the map and this sd card must be kept in the unit permanently. Other sd cards won't work unless you perform a hack using the MIB2TOOL. Secondly, only the extracted folder named " maps " should be on the sd card. Thirdly and finally, your issue may be due to corrupted data. I've always used WinRAR to extract the map downloads and you should extract the folder to your pc NOT directly to your sd card. Once its been extracted to your pc then copy the " maps " folder to your formatted sd card. This is assuming that you're using a Windows PC - it's well documented that a linux system will sometimes add files to the extracted folder and cause issues. Also bear in mind that the Skoda Update portal is notorious for hosting corrupted map downloads. You're better off using the VW map links posted in this forum. They're usually 6 or 7 months ahead of the Skoda releases and are exactly the same maps but are renamed by Skoda. The links are here:

Apple will do the same thing

Im not sure but I had a Tiguan with an Amunsden (Discover Pro) 2.5 flat screen unit

The procedure was that you had to copy the CONTENTS of the MAPS folder onto the SD card and stick it in the slot in the glovebox

If you put the folder on the SD card it couldnt find the contents. Says that in the instructions.

I thought it was the older Discover MEDIA units that had the Proprietary Sd Card

And yes Apple will stuff it up really nicely with all the extra crap it puts on the unzipped files

Ive used WINRAR for 15 year successfully

Yup - you're partly correct. I shall explain. This applies to the Amundsen MIB2 unit. The terms that are generally used are " nested " or " nesting ". The units will not recognise files if they are nested within another folder. So, for instance, if you extract a downloaded map then the result will be an extracted folder with the name of the map on it. if you then copy that folder to the sd card then the unit will not see the folder named " maps " or its contents because they are nested inside another folder. This is a common mistake that many people make. I still have my original Skoda Amundsen MIB2 sd card and I can confirm that the only folder on there is the " maps " folder so the the proper method of updating your maps is to delete the old " maps " folder and just copy the new " maps " folder in its place so it is in the exact format of the original card. Saying that, I also know from experience, that the sd card should work with just the contents of the " maps " folder copied to the sd card i.e. unnested.

Ok I have never had a unit that had a SD card with it . I recognise what you mean.20250616_195647[1].jpg I went from an RNS 510 DVD drive to a 2019 Tiguan with a 2.5 Amundsen in it and used any old SD card As I understood the VW SD card had protected files etc and you did as you say and even if you formatted that card it didnt remove the protected files. Even now with an MIB3 you must put the files in the ROOT of the Stick and not a folder This as you see is the contents of the folder in the top line and is what goes on the USB C Stick. I have found that you can put it onto a stick that already has stuff on it. Eg I use a 128gb USB C stick with about 1300 music tracks on it. I just copy the files to it and it finds them and installs the map. Have been doing that for years. Just delete them afterwards. Pic is latest AUS map and installed fine last week over 2 short trips

Yea - I see what you mean. I've got no experience of MIB3 units only the MIB2 ones. MIB2 Amundsens must have the original sd card in them at all times while the MIB2 Columbus is a completely different method. Any third party sd card can be used to upgrade the map. The map is then stored in the onboard memory of the actual unit and therefore the sd card can be removed or deployed for another use. As you say MIB3 might be completely different and only the contents need to be copied to the sd card. The original poster did say his unit was a MIB2 though. As long as the file structure is kept to the same layout as his original sd card then he shouldn't have a problem but unfortunately he didn't do a backup.

Update – I got it working!

I finally managed to get the maps working. I downloaded the vw package from here: Amundsen Mib2 Map Updates 2025/2026 - Audio, Electronics and Security - BRISKODA

Extracted it using Winrar to my PC, then copied the maps folder to the root of the Skoda sd-card. I could’ve sworn I tried this exact method before – maybe I didn’t, or maybe the previous download was corrupted. Either way, this time it worked, and I’m not going to question it 😄

Appreciate all the replies and tips.
