Problem with log book

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've got a bit of a problem with my log book and I hope you guys can help.

Bit of background first. I bought my Fabia Elegance 1.4 16v a couple of months

ago. Its a W reg (2000) and has 75k on the clock, but its in great condition and its black!

Anyway I've been thinking about fixing the stone chips on the front and after reading

the forums looked in my log book for the paint number. I then posted

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t33622-paint-code.html

to check wether the code was correct for black magic. After getting some confused

replies about the number I checked the label in the boot and found to my dismay

that the log books details are for another car!!

I'm not sure if there is anything dodgy going on, I definately have an Elegance but

the log book is for a classic with an entirely different vin number etc.

I know this may sound nieve, but I think the dealership just gave the previous owner

(middle aged polite lady) the wrong log book?

I think my first point of contact will have to be the dealership, but I'm interested in

your thoughts.

I will scan both labels and log book and post them a bit later.

Best Regards

Paul

Dont post you vehicle details on a public forum, keep em to yourself.

But yes id contact your dealer, is the reg the same on your logbook as your car?

The reg is correct, but that is added in ink.

The label stuck inside the book is for an entirely different car.

Fabia classic 50kw, different vin etc etc. In effect this log book isn't meant for this car.

I'll scan the labels and airbrush out any numbers etc just to give you an idea, if you think thats

ok?

Paul

Are you meaning the service record book or the DVLA log book?

If it is the service record, then the book you have may not contain the service information for your car.

Go back to the dealer, if it has been serviced by Skoda agents they should be able to see the service record for the car on their computer.

Hope this helps

Here we go.

Below is a scan of the inside first page of my logbook. I have airbrushed somebodys

phone number and some other doodle out at the top. Also I have airbrushed my reg number

which was written in ink on the right and The vin number on the label even though

it isn't my Fabia's vin number.

Below is a scan of the label I took out of the boot of my Fabia. I have airbrushed

out the vin number again and in this case the number is correct to my car.

I'd like to add that as a first time buyer I spent the extra to have it fully checked over

by the RAC and the HPI check etc was all good.

Best Regards

Paul

p.s. If I have accidentally included any info in the above scans that I shouldn't

let me know so I can rectify it. Thanks

Right you mean the service book not the log book. Chances are the dealer has got them mixed up. Give them a bell to sort it out.

So you dont think its a big issue or an indication of something dodgy?

I'm a bit concerned about all this.

Paul

p.s. Whats a log book then?! lol

As long as the details are correct on the car to you actual log book (V5) the service book is somewhat irrelevant.

Dont panic until you have spoken to your dealer.

Log book is the old term for the registration certificate or V5.

You mean the document that got sent to me by the DVLA? a couple of weeks after

I bought the car.

Yes, thats the importnant document.

Thanks guys,

You've helped put my mind at rest. I'll get in touch with the original dealer and try and get

a replacement.

Im concerned as it will look dodgy when I sell it on, so I want some kind of replacement or amendment.

Best Regards

Paul

Best bet is try to get the propper service book for you car. If they sold it to you with a service history then it should have the correct service book.

If you have no joy with the dealer, the V5 has the details of the previous owner. Might be worth writing to them to see if they have the document service book.

On the one you have, is there any sign of a different reg. At the front, or anywhere else.

I bought the car privately, but the previous owner bought it from her Skoda dealership

as a used approved car (12 months old).

She has since then been getting it serviced regularly at a different Skoda dealership.

I'm surprised they never picked up on it?

She has kept every receipt she ever got for services and MOT's etc.

I honestly dont believe anything dodgy has occured, just that they were originally

given the wrong service book.

p.s. I believe The lady I bought the car from was the first private owner. It was bought

by her 'used approved' from the dealership. I think the car was used as a demonstration model

or something as their is no previous owner (as per HPI check)
