Waterfall when drivers door opens

Featured Replies

I keep finding that after rainfall when I open my door to get in water pours out from the top of the painted sill section. It's about half a cup full. All the rubber seals seem to fit well. I think it's coming from the front of the door, maybe near the A pillar. Does anybody else have this issue ?

Yes.

You can evade a majority of the water by opening the door carefully 'ajar' waiting a few secs, then open it fully.

It works for me.  ;)

You need a set of wind deflectors. They also allow you to drive in the rain with the window open an inch or two.

The water still comes in even with the wind deflectors, they only stop the water coming in through the windows

I had wind deflectors on a previous mondeo but removed them because they cause lots of very small hairline scratches along the top inch of the glass from constant opening and closing the window.

I'm finding when i open the doors that water comes off of the top seal and hits my chest.

Must practice getting in slowly

When you say the water lies on the cill - I assume you mean at the bottom of the door apature. Does it do it when the car has been sitting around in the rain, or after driving in rain?

Here's some starters:-

There's a gap at the front end of the cill where you can see the plastic wheel arch liner when the door is open. Check that the gap between the cill and the plastic liner isn't blocked with mud.

Check that the drain holes at the bottom of the door aren't blocked.

Have you got a sun roof? If so, the drain hose that runs from the front corner of the roof down the A pillar may be blocked, kinked or wrongly routed.

Anyone else any ideas?

The water comes from the place where you can fit sill plates. I just worry that it'll get under the rubber in the body and into the carpet. It's always after the car has been stood in the rain. I'm sure it's leaking in through the front of the door.

It is probably running down the window then inside the door, then out of the drain holes at the bottom.

The door seals are very water tight, I've trsted them!

I park on a slope and have always had the "waterfall effect"

it always gets the Lioness but I just crack the door open first.

Our passenger door sill did this after standing in rain, water sits on the painted sill in a puddle, and pours out when door is opened. All usual things checked, no blockages and dealer says seals OK. No water gets inside. Our previous Yeti never did this.

I have alleviated the problem by wiping the bottom sill with WD40 occasionally, rain then seems to run away and not form puddles on the sill.

Happens all the time on mine, driver and passenger side. It's a known problem with the Yeti. As mentioned just crack the door and wait a second.
