Greetings from sunny Singapore. I own a 2001 Fabia 1.4 8V manual. Wonderful car, no major problems with it except that the reverse lights keeps flickering whenever the reverse gear is engaged. I wonder if it is a problem with the connection at the gear shift. Also there seems to be a slight rattling sound during idling that disappears whenever you step on the clutch pedal and comes back again when you release it. Did anyone encountered this problem before?

There seems to be a fairly common problem with reverse light switch's -- we use the same engine/box in the Audi A2 -- and we have been told to replace them with modified type as and when they fail.

The noise is probably normal backlash in the gearbox itself.

Could the clutch noise be thrust bearing? Dave (skodaw) and others are far better qualified than I am!!

Thanks for the welcome. I will have the reverse switch changed. I hope the clutch is just due to normal backlash and not the thrust bearing wearing out. What is it like anyway when the thrust bearing is faulty?

Can anyone recommend a used parts dealer that would be willing to ship a complete Fabia RHS headlight assembly to Singapore?
