High oil consumption on Skoda Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 1.8 tsi skoda yeti is nearing the end of its warranty and has had an issue with high oil consumption (measured by Skoda at about 300ml / 1000 miles which is below the "acceptable" 625ml / 1000 miles). I have checked the forum and internet info on similar problems on other VAG 1.8 tsi's but can't seem to find many other yeti's with the same problem. I was wondering if any other 1.8 tsi yeti owners have had this problem and whether it get's progressively worse or will stay about the same. I love the car and can put up with putting £50 of oil in per year but don't fancy putting a new engine in or having to pay for an extended warranty on a nearly new car. I was also thinking about sending the car to superchips once the warranty had run out but don't know whether this will make the oil consumption worse.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I've experienced similar problems with increasing oil consumption on my 59 reg 1.8 Tsi Yeti. I've been topping it up regularly over the last year but am now having to top-up every 100-150 miles prompted by the oil warning light. I recently booked it in for a service and they have identified oil leaks from the engine and it is awaiting further diagnostics.  Judging by the the comments on other threads in the this forum this has the potential to be very serious.  As the car has only done 52k miles I'm not at all happy!  I'd recommend keeping very a close eye on the oil consumption and perhaps getting it looked at sooner rather than later.

Cheers

Our new 1.8tsi has now done 3500miles and not used any oil.

Have you raised a Case No with Skoda UK and not just had the  the dealer doing work under the warranty. If so has the dealer passed on the information to Skoda UK.

That way you start the history file for the car inside the warranty but also giving Skoda UK an awareness.

Thanks for the replies. It seems that since I posted this message the oil consumption hasn't got any worse and has remained at about 0.5 litres every 1500 miles. I'm hoping it will stay like this but will try and confirm that Skoda UK are aware of the issue and the work the local dealer have done in case there are any issues in the future. I won't be doing any engine mods either just in case. I guess the only thing also worth noting is that I have had the amber warning message about oil pressure "don't go above 3000rpm" on the odd occasion although this could be unrelated.

I hope you get your car sorted without major hassle Glacierman.
