citigo coming up on Top Gear?

Featured Replies

You've just answered that yourself :)

You think they feel both the same...

Just never heard anyone pull up the steering on these cars before

Well I am and IMO I don't like how a standard CitiGo/Mii/Up! handles. It's safe enough but not exciting or confidence inspiring. Of course the Sport maybe different...

  • I saw that! Was convinced it was an UP! Not a Citigo :-( I will wait to be proved wrong lol and be happy again haha

  • It's definitely not a Skoda Citigo or a Seat Mii because (fortunately!) neither of those cars has that horrible sloping up rear side window on the 3-door version.

  • Nothing wrong with my rear windows!

Fair enough

Thanks for your opinion

Just a shame that a standard 60/75PS city car doesn't have exciting handling according to you

What were they thinking, releasing a car for sub 10k without making sure it could be thrown around the Nurburgring by its Race Car driver target audience!

VAG got it so wrong lol

It doesn't have to be Nurburging capable but surely a small car, light weight, zippy engine should be a recipe for a fun car? I'll admit it's fun wringing every last horsepower out of one though. Maintaining momentum between corners and not relying on power is fun and I've said that for years. But years ago there were loads of cars with just these characteristics (and a LOT cheaper) and it's as if modern day cars are designed to numb everything and feel detached. Even traction control and ESP is permanently on with the Up! so it's truly idiot proof. If the steering was a bit more weighty and a bit more feel it would be ideal. Or it could be a VAG thing. My 6N2 Polo was fairly light, engine revved well enough but just left me cold. It was a tool to do a job and that was all. The Up! just felt like a very expensive fashion accessory.

What do you want out of 60 or 75 bhp?

It's the way you drive them to get the best out of them and red lining isn't one if them.

The Sport suspension is lower with slightly wider wheels and the handling is very go kart like. It's fun and has a lot of character.

I think its a vag thing. Their cars tend to handle in a similar way.

As I've said earlier the citosport handles most unlike a vag car. I'd wager that the citogo sport handles better than your fabia vrs and has sharper steering too. Whilst I've not driven one I've owned or driven the vag equivalents ;)

As a current Fabia owner(Monte Carlo Tech) and having driven several Citigos and Up!s I would say that the Citygo has much better steering feel than any current Fabia. I love the Monte and it's perfect for my commute(about 55 miles per day mainly motorway)but FUN it isn't

I've also driven a couple of mk2 Fabia VRSs which leave me absolutely cold. IMHO poor steering and sloppy handling

I'll admit it's not perfect and there are ways to improve it and change driving style accordingly. I don't have blinkers on like lots do here...

There's more to driving life than Skoda. Maybe it's best to go elsewhere...

I don't think us citigo drivers have blinkers on. We are all to aware of the limitations / faults of our cars. They most certainly aren't the best cars on the road but I guess the citigo suits our needs.

Before I got mine I had my heart set on a 330d which probably is the best car on the road, lol. But I then realised that for various reasons the citigo suited me better at this time.

I will still have a 330d at somepoint though!

Martyn I have no need to go elsewhere as I said above I think that my Monte is just about perfect for its intended use ie a motorway commute and we have a Citygo sport due for delivery shortly which again will be perfect for it's intended use around town. Just about my favourite car so far is a mk1 Fabia VRS remapped to around 170bhp/300lbsft. But I too am not blinkered.

I used to run a second 'fun' car for weekends and the odd summer commute and one such car was a Caterham Superlight R so I also know what a good handling car should feel like.
