Octavia III vRS TDI DSG stalling randomly after starting

Featured Replies

Hello all

I have just received my brand new Octavia vRS TDI Combi III and I am really happy and satisfied. It looks great and it behaves great... except for one thing

It has happened to me four times in three days of use that the car stalls just 1-2 secs after first start. The second try always goes well and smooth.

This has happened four times of maybe 20. But it is very strange as the car seems during those 1-2 secs to struggle to keep itself started and then stalls.

It has nothing to do with cold weather as I live in Seville (south Spain) and the stall has not been the first start of the day. On the contrary.

I though it could be start-stop engaging just after start but it is know discarded.

So.... any ideas would be really appreciated!

Many thanks!

It sounds like a serious enough problem that you should go see the dealer. If it happens this often you might even be able to replicate there for them to see it.

I've already told them about it

We will see it next week, but just wanted to know if anyone around has seen something similar

The problem with these kind of failures in such a technologically complex car is that it may be difficult to find out

By the way

Normal revs at idle are at 750, is that normal in this engine?

Thats what mine revs at.

Mines has cut out a couple of times after starting it (when i've been driving) but it turns out to be the start/stop system kicking in so have just gotten used to it now, only happens every now and then.

Start stop is not the issue as the A simbol is not shown after stalling. At least it does not seem to be.

On top of it, the engine struggles to maintain itself on and then stalls (this whole process only last 1-2 secs but it is very noticeable)

Just a quick update

After being at the dealer they do not find anything erroneous. In fact they weren't lucky to reproduce it so they had to trust in my videos of the event.

I have been able to record it in video and I have attached for you to assess!

This issue is really frustrating in a new car

Almost stall

Stalled

See you!

Not much else you can do other than take it to the dealer and drop it in its lap!

How did yo get on with this? My 2009 Yeti 140 CR TDI is doing the same thing. One in maybe 10 starts it catches and then dies straight away. If it were a petrol I'd be looking for a spark problem but clearly as derv this won't be the case.

When you took it to the dealer was it left there for a first start? Or did they just try when you brought it in? It could be sone fuel vaporisation/ starvation first thing.

I take it that when warm it doesn't have this issue?
