aux input

Featured Replies

Hi all...can anyone recommend just a simple plug and play cable for the stream mp3 head unit? There a few on eBay starting from £7 but have differing connectors, my car is a 56 plate if that makes any difference? Also am not looking for track listing or charging just mp3 playback :)

Thanks

Russ

Assuming you have a socket in the armrest which with a stream mp3 i would have thought you did?, then its just a simple 3.5mm male to male jack cable. Loads on ebay for 99p.

Hi Adam

No, no armrest in my car :/ so the cable I need plugs into the back of the HU and then has a 3.5mm jack at the end

I guess the stream mp3 has been retrofitted then. The decision will be based on whether you want a female port mounted somewhere or if you choose to have a male lead threaded through the dash somewhere and left hanging loose for connection.

No, the arm rest/jumbo box was an option at the factory and the tightwad who brought my car new never got it fitted :) I just want a simple 3.5mm jack to plug onto my phone or my iPod so will probably go for one from flea bay but I am just not sure about which connector is correct and was hoping someone would have done this before ;)

Can you post a link?

That would definitely work.

You fit the connector to the back of the stereo and thread the cabling through the dash. I would probably go through the ashtray area.

Do you have a cd changer?

That's good to hear! Thanks for looking mate...yes I have a CD changer in the boot but from what I understand tje stream mp3 hu has a spare connection in the back for aux input

It does yes. Im not entirely sure of the connections but you may need to extract the pins from the white plug and put them in the correct spare holes in the cd changer plug.

There will be a pinout diagram on the back of the headunit hopefully.

Cheers mate it looks pretty simples actually....will give it a go!! ;)

Yes it is easy. I have just done the same on my daughters polo and the biggest issue was getting the stereo out!! That is just four screws with the stream fortunately.

It seems to have a good guide on that link you just sent so I will follow that and hope for the best!! Thanks again for your advice

No prob and good luck.

Would that cable work on the Stream non MP3 head unit or is it different?

No, the non mp3 stream does not have a spare connector, I think you will have to get a connects 2 device that replaces the CD changer

There is a post on here where someone put a manual switch in place and wired in an aux port to a non mp3 stream head unit and kept the changer. But unless you do something like that you would have to replace the cd changer as russler states.

Did this recently. There is a sticker on the radio detailing the spare pins for aux in. Essentially left, right, and earth. You can adapt a cable from a set of old stereo head phones.

The pins on the radio require quite standard 0.1" ( 2.5mm) female connectors available from maplins.

See these as an example.

Crimp these to your headphone wires (left, right signals and earth) and insert them into the plastic plug for the wiring to the radio.

Run the wire to the centre console and connect to a socket. I used this one

Enable aux in on the radio menu.

Now that's a good idea to fill my only remaining switch blank....
