Which rear shock's? Standard or ...?

Featured Replies

Seems that the bump stops are broken, hence the crashing and bashing noises it seems, so, what do I do?

Replace with standard Skoda ones, or something different?

Not interested in being suddenly able to go around a hairpin bend 2mph quicker, so I guess it's down to price and ease of fitting.

Thoughts/suggestions before I get the plastic out?

Don't really want to go to the expense of replacing the front struts at the moment, as they appear to be fine.

Not really very knowledgeable about suspension matters and terminology, so keep it simple please.

Car was lowered fractionally by the original owner 8 years ago. Hardly noticeable from standard tbh

Still got the virtually brand new original springs in a box.

Just buy standard shocks (e.g Sachs) and the bump stops mate.

Rears are relatively easy, a one man job and two spanners out of 5 if you follow the basics, particularly if you are just switching the shocks, as the springs remain in place, its an absolute piece of p.

Struts are less easy but as you say they are fine. Its a no brainer, there isn't any complex thinking required here just get some shocks.

Did mine last weekend, one was leaking & both bumps were shot, went for sachs from TPS,shocks bumps & bolts /nuts all in around £110.

Couple of hours & no problems, easy enough & hopefully sorted the sticky handbrake while i was at it.

Sachs shocks aren't all that...

You can get a pair of decent gas shocks for £75 delivered on ebay. Fitting is absurdly simple.

Euro car parts supply Sachs anyway, about £17 last time I fitted one on a vw polo, about two weeks ago.

Someone can correct me here if i'm wrong but I dont think the bumpstops would be the cause of noisy or rattley rear shocks.

Either the shocks themselves are knackered or the topmounts are done.

I'd just put OEM shocks and new rear bumpstops back into it from Trade Parts Supplies.

Nope i had this problem too, came out as an advisory that the bump stops were cracked

TPS were cheaper than Euro for Sachs, mine is standard anyway so went the oem route.Bump stops had been gone for a while but only started clonking after the shock started to leak.
