2001 Fabia 1.4 16v Comfort - a few questions..

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've just picked up a fabia comfort as a runabout. Very happy with general driveability and, er, comfort, but I've got a few questions if anyone can help.

I have the common p0401 fault code relating to the egg valve. The car runs perfectly, and I've been getting 45mpg so far (combined urban and motorway), so no obvious fault, and the Car idles stable. Is it worth fixing? I've taken the airbox off and the throttle body looks clean, but I haven't got as far as the egr.

I can't find much about aftermarket induction kits for this engine? I'm not really into the induction thing, but I think the airbox looks like it might pick up heat from the engine? Maybe I'm being too cynical?

The EGR valve and associated pipework need cleaning, it's not critical since the car is running well.

The standard airbox draws cold air in directly from the front panel and is not restrictive, there are a few people who've 'fabbed' their own induction kit for this engine but since it doesn't do anything other than reduce filtration and make more noise I personally haven't bothered.

Edit: Don't forget the best 'mod' you can do for this engine is ALWAYS run it on super unleaded, it's essential.
