Something isn't quite right after a new turbo

Featured Replies

So yeah as the title suggest something isn't quite right after I got my fabia back after having a new/recon turbo fitted on my vrs.

When the engine is cold I.e on a morning or after work it sorta struggles to start a bit, it used to fire up within like half a second of turning the key now it's takes a few seconds now. I have noticed if I wait the glow plug lights to go out it does help kinda, I never had to do this in the past.

The car drives fine and starts up with out a issue when warm, or if it hasn't been stood for too long but long enough of the engine to cool down. Only struggles after a good few hours as mentioned above.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try. Fitting a new set of glow plugs in there, they don't live forever.

Yeah I fitted a new set maybe 2/3 months ago, guess it won't do any harm fitting some more for thr sake of 30 quid or so

Runs/drives ok once going?

Turbo replacement should not affect starting IMO,unless there is a air leak or something on the inlet.

You had nothing else done at the same time?

As sounds to me like it could be the fuel running back/slight air leak on the fuel system somewhere, like diesel filter :)

Yeah once going it seems to be fine, pulls really well.

Well it had a split egr pipe which was also done as far as im aware that's all that got replaced, i no I should of deleted egr but at the time I was panicking lol.

Well I'll change the fuel filter tomorrow on my day off as tbh on its service I replaced the usual items bar the fuel filter for some reason.

A part from the dodgey start up woukd there be any other symptoms?

Have you had a look at the timing on VCDS? I set mine back to 0 and now it starts a lot better than before.

I can't say I have tbh, I have a basic code reader to which I clear faults with an can turn off air bag lights, would I be able to use that to you think?

I know this may sound silly but have you had the battery tested? I had issues with mine where it would turn over slow when cold, but once I had waited for the glow plug light to go out it seemed better to crank over. Started without any issues when warm however.

Was only after a few days of the car being sat idle going no where I tried to start it one morning and it cracked over twice and then died. It would start if I used the car on a daily basis

Well I decided to nip off during work to change the filter, decided to make sure I was pouring nice clean diesel into the new filter, so poured the old diesel into a clear plastic container and a load of suit an crap came out, so much so the liquid turned black in the end :/ think it needed a change!

Nah I haven't tested that but worth a try I guess, I no a place that does it free so guess it's worth a trip there to eliminate it.

Be good if this filter fixes it tho :) glad I changed it lol
