Pick Pasty a New Car Thread

Featured Replies

To divert chat away from the accident thread please discuss potential new PastyWagons in this thread

I am looking for something to do a 14 mile round trip commute 5 days a week in, potential running around at the weekend, and depending on what "wins" maybe a trackday or 2

I am incredibly tight and The pot is not exactly overflowing but i could probably find around £4000 although i expect that figure to include tax and any insurance increase over my modified Fabia VRS

so far i've "short"listed almost everything

sensible diesel replacements

a replacement Fabia

an Ibiza Sport PD130

small petrol hatches,

Yaris T-Sport,

Saxo VTR,

including the less sporty

Fiesta 1.25 Zetec

90s Micra

00s Clio

less sensible petrol hatches

Clio 172/182

mk2 Golf gti

mk3 Golf VR6

Another mk2 Ibiza Cupra

through to larger hatches and saloons

E36 3 series,

high mileage E46 3 series,

mk4 Golf

mk1 Leon

mk1 or 2 Octavia

on to open top motoring

a mk3 MR2,

or a mk2 MX5.

Any help or suggestions listened to and probably ultimately ignored :P

My vote is for a fabia or Ibiza - you know the cars and the engine well and for the money nothing in the size/class comes close.

Good mpg, brisk, handles ok - better with tweaks etc.

Your budget may see you in an Ibiza cupra tdi?

DC2 integra, surprisingly decent boot and bulletproof engine.

There's a decent looking Accord Type R in the for sale section (no vested interest in it I just noticed it today)

Can't really go wrong with a vtr. Quite nippy and reasonably economical on a run, so ling as you can get over the chav car stigma.

Although for 4k you could be well in your way to building a supercharged vts :) which would be a cracking track toy :)

Mini Cooper S R53... Its only a 1.6 the economy will be fine...

E39 530i or 530d

I owned a Toledo 130pd several years ago and it was a great car (similar to Leon). Brisk, reasonable fun to drive, plenty of toys and amazing economy (still my most economical car to date). So I can recommend the Leon on that basis :)

I vote you go for a Fabia vRS, say a silver one, well known on the forum with around 200bhp, not a looker next to alot of beauts on here but will serve you well and really is a BRISKODA!

But hey maybe I am a little bias ..

I know of a black Fabia vrs that'll be for sale soon. It'll even come with green wheels :D

MX5

Many around and very very reliable

It just doesn't do it for me. Miss the Octavia too much so going to buy another one.

Here you go Cliff, no further need for this thread of confusion just buy this..

Fast, Frugal, Practical and Classy all in one car, it is good value for money too. Slightly over budget but good price for what it is.

Sounds good :) Yellow MkI or II?

MK1, they're getting really cheap. Could be any colour as long as it isn't black.

Dont go for a mk2 golf. Great cars but you cant get some of the rubbers or seals now. Try and test drive some but maybe the ibiza.

MK 2 Golf parts are readily available, even to the point MK3, MK4 parts fit too.

This one currently runs a 2.0 turbo motor with 475 bhp, a well sorted car.

How about a 2009 Fiat Bravo? Not at all sporty, but nice and comfortable, cheap to run and in your budget ;)

The economy isn't fine and the road tax is stupidly high I'm afraid.

Cooper S R53 has terrible economy, mine was pushing 30mpg taking it easy. My vote would be for a clio 172 cup or a 182 FF

Edit; tax for a cooper s was £250 when I had mine and that was over a year ago.
