Dealer won't repair my Skoda under warranty

Featured Replies

So if we assume that the fuses were correct before they were inspected and refitted in the wrong slots, thus leaving some open circuits that resulted in the engine being unable to start, what on earth caused the car to fail in the first place. The dealer replaces the fuses in the correct place, sure.......but what about the original fault that caused all of this to happen????? it obviously wasn't the fuses as they were fiddled with after the car failed.

I'm confused :(

  • Speak to Skoda Customer Services....There is a warranty Explain to them what has happened BTW.....Did the AA man fiddle with the fuses or did you?

Youre not the only one that's confused Amanda!!

It doesn't help that the OP doesn't say where he is..so we could communicate in his language

I suggest Spanish?

What beats me if it were under warranty why did you start to fiddle around with it??

Get the car back, put fuses in correct place and take-it to a different dealership ?

Dealer fixed the car. He put fuses in correct locations. But car was already dead when I start looking at the fuses. Today I am collecting car from dealer and I will ask for full printed diagnostic test. I still don't thinks so that was fuses issue.

Warranty says: warranty covers mechanical and electrical problems. In my case it was electrical because nothing was working. If I knew that this will cost me penny I would call for my mechanic friend. So what is this warranty for? Next time I will go probably go to the garage next to me.

As said...Speak to Skoda

Lets look at it from the dealers point - he's has been delivered a non starting car sounds like all the symptoms of a flat battery so he'll have charged it

but vehicle still won't start probably done a diagnostic check and nothing shows. Spends hours trying to identify the problem until he finds a fuse in the wrong place -presumably an important one - swaps them back and the car starts.

He can't claim his time back from Skoda as its not covered under warranty so the customer has to be charged.

This does not explain why the car wouldn't start in the first place but no light on dash sounds like a totally flat battery, normally a battery with a dead cell has enough in it to light the dash - could the lights have been left on ? and drained the battery.

Dead cells can lead to intermittent Faults where sometimes it will start and others when it won't often temperature dependant - ask for the battery to be checked when you collect it.

Which fuse was wrongly placed into which position?

OK.......................so.........

  1. The car wouldn't start
  2. The AA man came and checked battery
  3. He had seen "nothing like it" so I assume he was not referring to the battery as he will have seen them before and also would be able to diagnose a flat battery at site
  4. You check fuses and possibly move one to wrong slot
  5. Skoda says fault is fuse in wrong slot
  6. Item 1. on this list refers to the car not starting! It wasn't the battery (AA man checked it) it wasn't the fuse in the wrong slot (you hadn't fiddled with them at point 1.)

So we still don't know why the car wouldn't start in the first place???

You are not going to get to the bottom of it unless you know what faults are stored, even then some could have been caused by the fuse pulling

on the basis that the battery was disconnected has probably reset what was wrong. A glitch in the ECU Cluster etc

If you have something wrong it probably will happen again, in which case take it straight to the dealer without any investigation by AA man or yourself

Any faults will be in the diagnostic printout and remain for 50 starts if self clearable.

Thanks everyone for all: I have my car back . Happy days. But instead to pay 150 dealer charged me 119 euro. He said that this could not be covered by warranty because fuses were on wrong location and if I want money back I should as AA service. I have to sleep and take deep breath. I can just said that dealer charged me for connecting to the diagnostic device, cleared errors, charged the battery, wash my car. So from the other side not that bad. Like someone said the battery was just flat and couldn't see anything on dashboard. My bad that I didn't charge the battery or swap with my wife's car. My bad. Next time when I call for AA I will ask for battery check, fuses check or little more then last time. Today I drove 50 km and everything looks fine. But when it happened again I will go straight to dealer.

Did you call Skoda Assist or the AA. I only ask as Skoda Assist is provided by the RAC, but if i ever have an issue like the one you had i tend to call Skoda Customer service while standing in front of the service desk.

In Ireland Skoda Assist is done by The AA

If it was just a flat battery very poor show from AA man in not diagnosing and fixing it.

Scott

Yeh, I think I'd be looking for some cash contribution from the AA. I wouldn't have thought that a flat battery was the sort of thing they should miss.

Sarge.

Even my father in law was in shock that the only plug the charger and after one minute left. I called AA next day and complained but I heard that "the guy know what his doing and he did everything he could" probably I was unlucky with this guy.

Were the fuses checked with a meter or just by looking at them? I suspect that a blown fuse was probably the initial cause. Putting them back in the wrong place probably caused another to blow when testing. Now there are two problems.

Is it charging?

It's your car, they are asking you to pay so it's non unreasonable for you to ask exactly what they did.

I just looked on them because I don't have digital multimeter. I have plan to buy one. Today car started. I can't checked that battery is full but if starts then charged.
