When to change Automatic Transmission ATF oil and filter

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

I have a 2002 Octavia with Automatic transmission. It has only 61,000kms.

The Skoda dealer advice me to change the ATF oil and filter on my transmission as a maintenance. They say they recommend all customers to change this every 60,000kms.

Whats your advice?

THX,

Isaac

Yes you should get it changed.

According to Elsawin, the information/recommendation they have given is sound advice.

Well, ZF Transmissions say every 80_000km, but your car is in Panama and 12 years old, so I'd say 60_000km seems like a good time. Experience with people who've done this in the UK (variety of makes and models) suggests that you'll save the cost back in about 20_000km in better fuel economy.

I did his with a Volvo T5 auto estate I had, the difference after changing the filter and ATF fluid was amazing, changes were crisper etc.

Admitted, the T5 has a convoluted method of changing the fluid (taking list of fluid to flush, and a lot of time) but it is worth it, and foolish not to change it IMHO.

Well, I going to follow your advice and going to make a appointment at the Skoda dealer to change the ATF oil.

They are going to change the filter and put 4 quarts of VW ATF OIL- VAG 052162 and also going to replace the differential oil (75W-90)

The oil is a little expensive, US$27.oo each quart/liter and US$17.00 the diff oil plus US$100.oo for filter, gasket, etc plus US$120.oo hand labor

Hey Leonardo,

I got the filter and gasket from e-bay. (Around $30.oo)  If you buy it in Panama, they going to ask you for $100.oo o more.

Yours is a Skoda II so I dont know the part number or is the part number is the same as the Skoda I

The part Number I bought was  01M398009

Maybe some body here can help you with the part No. so you can order it thru e-bay

You can get the ATF oil at Repuestos Samudio.  I think they have the PENTOSIN Brand or a brand thats work on your transmission. Make sure to use the correct ATF Fluid one.

Do you have a mechanic that have experience working on VW/Skoda cars????? I do it at the Skoda dealer and it was very expensive

Let me know if you need more help.

Rgds
