Fed up with paying soooo much for petrol.....we had loads of tv reporters in Marlborough today outside our very overpriced garage Diesel

Fed up with paying soooo much for petrol.....

Buy a diesel?

not worth it mate, fr the inital orice it would take a hell of a lot of petrol to recoup that cost now that the government doesn't give grants any longer

It annoys me we went to Amsterdam the weekend just gone & petrol was 1.37euros, & diesel was only 1.02euros, its so not fair :(

Maybe thats why apart from going to work we now use my wife Santa Fe Diesel :)

Wanna try fuelling a Jag XJR 4.0 :(

Come on Fabia, get working! :D

are you gong on just prices and the same mpg though??

lpg gets crap mpg mate, i drive one all day every day. you could possibly save half if your lucky

my van has 2 tanks, a 55litre lpg and a 70litre petrol tank, i get about 100 -120 miles from the lpg and over 300 from the petrol.

lpg may be just over 1/3 of the price but returns much lower mpg

Yep - Mate ran a Range Rover V8 with THREE LPG tanks, and it wasn't any more economical. He's finding it cheaper to run a 165hp Nissan Navara pickup Diesel, ignoring the initial outlay of

my van is a 2.3 DOHC transit, we worked out they do about 8mpg on gas :o

Octygone,

Probably not going to help, but.........I used to drive a 2.0 octy. drove it like my pants on fire. never saw more than 30mpg over the 3+ years of ownership.

now on a pd130 engine. ok, it sticks in my craw, the cost of fuel but, put it like this.....

180miles a week, 30 quid petrol every 8 days in the 2.0 octy.... now, 50 quid of diesel, circa 600 miles.

i know the vrs is an awesome car. if petrol wasn't the price it is, and my mileage (which is likely to increase over the coming years) i'd have one.irc, u had a pdtdi (6speeder?). did u have it fiddled with?

no shame in a diesel mate.

share the views of bengie on lpg. a car dealing buddy of mine runs a 4.0 cherokee- on lpg......fills it every 4 days......35p a litre or not, filling up that often negates the saving.

come my young apprentice, turn back to the dark side.i will welcome u back to the fold like a brother....*wink*

Thats some pretty expensive petrol mate, we are still at 90.9p for diesel - Well it was the day before yesterday - and I thought that was bad enough.

Speak to Jason he'll help you put a PD130 in your Octy, it'll feel like the old days again!!  :P

My vrs will do between 35 and 40 mpg on a normal run ......but 30 driving around town is the best I can do ........so........Might go a different ish sort of route ..............2.0 tdi octy II estate........... if I can find a good deal :)

You would still have to be doing a lot of miles to recoup the losses involved having the VRS for such a short time.

A dealer will probably want to offer you 1.5k - 2k less than you paid for it in PX.

Yep I have had a think about that.......so might have to try private sale .....I am going to try towing a caravan with it soon and to be honest I think this will be a petrol station spotting exercise ......towing my 5 cwt trailer dropped the mpg to 26  and the car wasn't too happy about doing it.

we will see how it goes over the next few months.

Diesel 94.5 at the BP across the road from the office. 94.9 where I live

It's been 93.9 for quite some time.

Petrol is 1p a liter cheaper I think for the cheapest stuff, dunno about the 98 / ultimate type stuff, but I have a feeling it was 98 or 99 p a liter.

As for pulling a caravan killing your mpg - not surprising really. Have you tried keeping it a gear lower than you'd normally go, I've found that my Furby can hit up to 20 mpg better (!!) when I keep it in 5th at certain speeds on the motorway, depending on whether I'm going uphill or not. I'm guessing the difference with a petrol would be even more if it's gotta work hard.

Also worth considering one of those 'trailer spoilers', which push the air up from the back of your car towards the top of the caravan, smoothing the airflow a little over the package. Dunno how bad it looks & how much impact they have but it could work a few mpg perhaps?

My solution to save on fuel is to stay nearer to 70 mph when the roads are empty than I used to :P - that can keep my mpg around the 50mpg mark rather than 25 when making extremely nice progress.

Drastic measure.....move oooop norfff.

Petrol at tesco this morning - 88.9p

Diesel at same 92.9p

Ok, it's probably not at patch on where you are now, but cheaper fuel........for now... ;)

Is there a fuel price site anywhere? our local radio did one for a while and I think the AA used to do one but all stopped now I think.......if everyone bought from a lowest oriced site it may force prices down

I laugh when I see q's of people oustide Tesco etc trying to get 'cheap' fuel. Our local Shell and Esso are both cheaper!! lol

Swings and rounadabouts.........

Cost of maybe driving to the cheapest outlet might cut your savings anyway....

Just stay localish with your travels searching for fuel.....just use the cheapest without going out of your way.

Tesco for me every time......

Shell petrol 86.9 in Bassett.

Tesco is currently 94.9p here but I'm off to the West Country this weekend and ooooop Norf next weekend so I think I'll be running the tank dry and filling up when I get there ;) Glad I didn't opt for the 2.5 V6 Mondeo I was seriously considering lol!
