Cherished Registration

Featured Replies

How can Axa justify charging me just over £20.00 for placing a cherished registration on my car when I went on-line and made all the changes and I had to print off my own certificate

Directline do it for free. Hard pill to swallow when you actually dis the admin.

Free with Admiral too.

Other issues, but at least that's free. :D

Free with Adrian Flux too

Eh, I have had 3 cars now on VW/Skoda finance/PCP and they have never contacted me or charged me for changing the plate. In fact I have never informed them.

In the terms of ours says you have to. Put me off the idea of a plate

I wouldn't be prepared to pay £50 to put it on and then anther £50 to take it off and then to have to pay the DVLA.

That's funny, my mate has just been charged £17.00 by Admiral to do this!

It's all about checking the hidden charges when you take out insurance. Cheapest headline rate is very often not the cheapest at the end of the day.

You would have had an opportunity to read the small print when you took the policy out. If you chose not to do this then why choose to complain.

It's possible the reason they've never charged you is that you've never informed them

You are drive a car carrying a different reg. number to that on the insurance certificate?

That can only lead to 2 things - load of hassle if asked to produce your documents by the Police and doing this may invalidate your cover giving you even bigger hassle if you have an accident and you are with one of the many insurance companies that will use any excuse to avoid paying a claim

Over the last three years I've had to pay Admiral twice for the privilege.

It was £17.00 each time iirc

I can tell you 100% that the V5 and the insurance all match the car registration plates so I won't have any issues. I think you misread what I was referring to which was not informing VW/Skoda finance as per Gadgetman's post.

But they would know as the HPI register would flag to them that a car they have an interest in has changed it's plate. I had a car along time ago on non dealer finance (second hand Rover) and they wrote to me asking that I confirm I had changed the plate.

Does it work that way round, i.e. proactively?

I could see if a dealer HPI checked a car they were looking to buy/trade in then it would be flagged up, but are the finance side routinely informed of changes to the status of cars that they have financed once they've gone out the door? And if so would they routinely tell the insurance side of the business?

I was specifically pointed to that section when signing the finance docs.

I'm sure it'll be on yours unless recent changes (Sept 13 we signed ours)

 Ah, ok. Misunderstood your post

I will check but Skoda dealer was going to do my plate for me and it has never been pointed out before signing contract.

As I said in my post any interested party is probably notified (like my old Rover finance company). Not sure where the insurance part comes in as I don't have any insurance with Skoda/VW.

Absolutely bang on Gadget, in T&C's and never pointed out to me by finance guy.

Well something has been picked up as the payment statements have my cherished plate on it and not the original plate so VW/skoda finance are aware that the plate has changed.

I have had three cars on PCP from Skoda since 2007 and I have never been charged for the plate change.

Maybe it's an old clause that remains (as a just in case) but they don't action it?

It might be OK on PCP as we are the registered keeper of the vehicle and have the V5 etc, if it is contract hire VW/Skoda are the registered keeper and they retain the V5 so would incur admin on their side hence the charge.
