Our new yeti has arrived... With the wrong wheels and roof colour!

Featured Replies

I ordered my second Yeti almost 9 months before it was delivered. The trade-in price was fixed at the point of ordering, and the dealer honoured that price even though I'd managed to scuff and crease the passenger door. Sounds like your dealer is trying it on I'm afraid.

Hi Joiner Andy, Thanks for asking about the weather, to which I can report that weather is hot and sunny, with a forecast top of 38C today. We haven't had any rain for three months and could do with a drop. Not as big a drop as you guys have experienced. After reading all posts, it appears your dealer is typical of those who give car salesmen a bad name. My Yeti was at the showrooms, so I knew exactly what I was getting. At the time there was a special offer - price reduction and a five year warranty. All went well except for the five year warranty, but after six months of persistance it finally arrived. Apparently the salesman did not submit all details correctly to Skoda Australia, so the extra two years of warranty may have had to come out of his pocket. Such is life!

Morning

I found it hard to believe that they couldn't give a fixed price . I wrongly assumed that they would take £500- £1000 off. We only did about 850 miles since first quote to second. I can understand that some people may put on a lot of miles within a short space of time but £ 1000 would have been fair . The car is immaculate as new .

I wanted to walk away after I received the trade in but they had me over a barrel as I'd payed deposit and signed order form. I assumed I'd get it sold private .

3 people have been keen to buy it. The first had been searching for a long time and said yeti were like hens teeth but his wife needed dsg due to her knees. The second was going through a divorce and couldn't get the money from bank. Other guy can't get his own car sold to fund it. I'm surprised how hard it is to sell a yeti privately. I have sold 4 motorbikes and 2 vans and a caravan privately no problem. Perhaps the yeti is a niche market ? We had 3 cheeky offers as we'll which was comical.

I thought yetis held there value? Father in law just traded in a 58plate high mileage Tiguas for a new r line Tiguas and he almost got offered as much as we did for our yeti!

How are you liking the Octavia plumber?

Morning

I found it hard to believe that they couldn't give a fixed price .

They could have done. My car was valued in October for a March trade in. They just needed to know an estimate of how many miles I'd have done by then. The trade price guides they use show valuations for a few months ahead, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to extrapolate that for another month or so. Obviously if you then turn up having done an extra 20k miles that will cause problems but for a few hundred miles either way, that makes no difference.

I know it's frustrating, but I really would be very tempted to walk away at this point.

Yes, this. There's no way I'd have accepted a price increase of £2.5k after the paperwork was signed. They are taking the ****.

I agree with this. They are at it, using the trade in price to squeeze more profit for themselves.

Like others on here, my trade in was agreed even with a 3 months+ wait and it was honoured. And that was done over the phone with Rainworth Skoda via Carfile.

I'd have walked away as soon as they changed the trade in price.

did you pay by credit card? if so might be possible to get your dosh back that way as not what you thought you ordered! just an idea! bon chance!

What I'm struggling with is the fact that you were afraid you'd lose your £750 deposit, but sucked up a £2500 drop in part-ex

Something, quite literally, just doesn't add up

Tear up the paperwork and walk away and deal with a dealer face to face instead of one many hundreds of miles away who doesn't seem to give a toss

I didn't suck up the £2500 drop in trade in price. I made it clear I wasn't happy at all and was told that was all they could offer and advised me to try private sale. I was confident I'd get it sold but no joy. And I don't care about the £750 deposit that's why I'd gladly walk away out of principle. Going to try our local dealer tomorrow . Unfortunately I paid deposit on maestro card .

What has your trading standards relative said?

Hi 'joiner andy'  Your dealer sounds like they don't want your business.

Give Skoda UK a call and find out what the dealer has told them.

When I P/X my Freelander the dealer gave me a price last November against a showroom model and, knocked £5K of the list price of the Yeti.

But I had to wait till February this year to collect. I added almost 4000 miles in that time and I broke down with my P/X outside the garage when I went to collect my Yeti.

The dealer was happy to wait for my old car to be repaired AND, they still honoured the deal.

Good luck, and look forward to a suitable solution.

Some dealers do not deserve to be in business.

Why did you not mention the drop in trade price in your original post, which only mentions the roof and wheels (as per the topic title). Like others have said here, surely the £2500 is more important than the wheels/roof?

Anyway, I suspect that the dealer sucked you in originally with a good trade price, based on what your Yeti was worth at that time. Had you had got that in writing, I can't see how he could go back on that price.

However, as you did not, then not a lot you can do. Dealers can and should price in advance, but several months (and a new year) can make a substantial difference to trade values.

Also, don't think that a Yeti is easy to sell privately. You have to price realistically, and not be over zealous and ask what a dealer would. Private sales are usually around 10% less than dealer prices. And, always allow a margin for negotiation as well, as most savvy buyers will want and expect a bit off.

Always, but always pay for any big purchase (or in this case deposit) on credit card. However, I can't see that this would have helped in this instance, as legally (and on paper), the dealer appears to hold all the aces.

I still can't see why though, you want to order another Yeti from another dealer, and wait another 4 months, when your existing Yeti (not FL)  will be valued even less than now.

Swallow your pride - take the Yeti you ordered (after trying to get something off for the mix up), sell your car privately, webuyanycar or let the dealer have it, and get on with your life.

Out of curiosity, what is the year/mileage of your current Yeti, and what did you expect to sell/trade for?

Good luck!

It was JVS I was referring to ;)

Love JVS.

I guess it didn't cross my mind at start of post to mention trade in price drop as it was at the back of my mind. I guess any dealer would be offering me less and it means waiting again. All we want is the matterhorns so we will see what they say Monday.

Current mileage 22880. Looking for £15500 Ono . Two of the people that were keen to buy thaught it was a keen price.

Also love Jeremy vine show! Not so keen on Vanessa felts !

Price looks fair as books at £15300 for a private sale with 30k miles.

Trade/part ex is £14400 and webuyanycar values at £13500.

Franchise dealer would ask around £17k, so all in all you are about right with your pricing, but expect to be offered £15k.

As Brimma says, the only good buyer is one that is there with the cash - in life there are talkers and do'ers.

I think that maybe you have answered your own dilemma, insomuch as you agree that any dealer would now be offering you less (and waiting again).

So if you are not worried about loosing your £750 deposit, and your only concern is the Matterhorns, then, as they cost the same as your deposit, just buy them and sell the stock ones - simples!

Either that, or be stubborn, loose £750 and go through another 4 month wait with a less p/ex.

Also JVS = Jonathan Vernon Smith not Jeremy Vine.

Very true Brimma,

"Trust No One!"

From 2002-05 I worked at D&G Trading Standards as an Animal Health Officer but it was a small team so you pick up other stuff as well. From what you have explained the dealer has done nothing wrong (annoying maybe and a lesson to us all not to assume) so Trading Standards will not be able to help but good luck anyway.

As for book value of your trade in this is not accurate otherwise you would have sold the car. The real value is what you would achieve at auction. Honest John recommends BCA Sure Sell.

I remember years ago being told to" assume is to make an ass of u and me".

£5k off?? That's 20% on a £25k Yeti

Recall you stating previously that you got a great deal on a 15 (not 15k) mile showroom £25k pre FL for £14k, although you never confirmed if this was the balance to pay after your p/ex or the actual price.

As you p/ex'd a Freelander, I assume this was the balance to pay? If so, that prices your trade at £6k, which makes a little more sense to the figures you originally quoted.

Must be the deal of the century though.

They must have seen you coming

How much did their initial deal beat the best local deal by...........more to the point, was it worth all the hassle

Hindsight is a marvellous thing

Love JVS.

Yup, not how I imagined at all.  SWMBO thought it was Jake Humphry!

local dealer wouldn't offer any discount as they said they can sell them without discount so I guess I am better off.

Saying that I found out that they would match other deals when my dad got them to price match a deal on 170 elegance superb estate.

In hindsight I should have stayed local and saved on the transport costs but my local dealers can be a bit arrogant.  I remember in 2010 we went in to look at a roomster then saw the yeti and made enquiries about it. I was in my dirty work clothes and they seem to think a man dressed in shabby work clothes cant afford a yeti and were quite rude!

I have been to a few skoda dealers in perth, inverness, Newcastle, Aberdeen. some can be accommodating and the next I don't warm to at all. Id rather deal with a decent person .

Isn't that exactly what your supplier is being currently?

Hardly decent people
