Full open Trackday @ Castle Combe in June

Featured Replies

Details yet to be finalised but I have been given heads up about a charity fund raising full trackday at Combe in June (Friday 20th) - Cost is £160 for full day, open pit. Aim is also to have cars primarily road-cars only, but apparently will be some racers there, offering passenger rides. Apparently the guys from Mission Motorsport (ran by ex Vets / injured soldiers - along those lines) will be there. Sounds like it should be a good day and it factors in well with planned trackdays for me, as have wanted to do a full day at Combe before. Anyone else interested? (Details to be confirmed once I know more)

I would need a date.

(the calendar type)

Possibly interested

Its Friday 20th June (just found out) - The charity has not been decided yet, but apparently mission motorsport will still be there.

The day is partially subsidised by a Chippenham Volvo dealership it sounds like. :)

Russ - I could bring more driveshafts.  ;)  Do you know if golf 2.3 V5 driveshafts fit your car LOL

Fridays are not good, so probably won't be able to make it unfortunately.

Not sure that even you have enough driveshafts to get my car to last a day lolol.

I think the V5 shafts will be different.

Posting in here for interest. Always wanted to do a full day at Combe

I have had further correspondence with the chap organizing it.  He is keen to see "other" marques, as a Volvo owner himself, is keen to see a wide range of marques on the day.

Apparently the aim is to keep it as informal as possible, with the emphasis on fun, passenger rides, and raising funds for charity.  Whether this means there will be more "Joe Public" there, who perhaps will wish to have passenger rides for donations to the charity on the day, I am not sure - but it sounds like a cause worth supporting, and also sounds like a fun day - full trackday but with the added twist of charity support

Hmmm a Friday, maybe possible but I'm already running out of leave for 2014 (holiday year started this month). I wouldn't be able to confirm either way until maybe April.

But as always interested.

I think in next few days I will book myself on.

I could be up for this.

Does sound interesting this, I'll keep up with the details and see closer to the time.

possibly (if hotel skud is available ;) ) I'll check schedule....

working, but put in for leave, I'll let you know! (I may have a "toy" by this date ;) don't really want to use the new skoda for a whole day at castle coombe, BUT may have something else too, that can make appearances on non skoda days!)

Tempted by this also, the last full day I did there was a hoot!

Had a bit of clarification over some details - Here's a little summary I was sent

Briefly:

  • Friday 20th June
  • £160 per drivers place
  • £10 per passenger (all that goes straight to fundraising pot)
  • Open-pitlane and low numbers booked so minimal queueing
  • Runs straight through from 9am-4pm, no stoppage for lunch as the circuit needs to be prepared for a big bike event that weekend.  Signing on from 8am and drivers briefing at 8.30am
  • Free Instruction
  • Burger Van on site
  • All funds raised at the event will be for a good cause and event is entirely non-profit
  • Various marques being driven on track and 99% will be road cars - Volvo, Honda, Saab, Westfield, Peugeot, Ford etc.
  • Mixed driving abilities - some will be track newbies, others will have done thousands of track laps at Combe so will be a very track-friendly bunch!
  • Small contingent from Mission Motorsport attending and going out for passenger laps in the cars
  • It still is a private event (full public liability cover) so attendance is by invitation only and will not be open to the general public
  • Professional photographer covering track action

Soooo tempted, anyone know where I can get an endless supply of driveshafts from ???

I've got Q-Drive drive shafts on my car Russ, they're ok so far ;-)

I'm interested in this,I'll have a look at leave and work schedules and let you know!

More info supplied:- - It's good to see my contact for the Action Day involved.  I think I will book on early next week. :)

Hi Jason,

That sounds great and I reckon we should be able to accommodate 5-6 more participants, including yourself.  We won't have anywhere near 20 cars on circuit at one time, and we tend to have 40 or so cars booked for the entire event, so you will get plenty of track time and experience has shown it tends to be very quiet indeed apart from the initial rush to get on track first thing in the morning.

The event is now in its fifth year and is sponsored by MRG Chippenham who are a Volvo, Subaru and Isuzu dealership.  It started off in 2010 in support of the High Performance Volvo Club (www.t5d5.org) and a large number of participants do still sign up via that forum:

http://forums.t5d5.org/forum/87-t5d5-mrg-track-day-meet/

From the very first year, we have also had participation and support from staff from Volvo Car (UK) Limited and this year will be no exception.

Over the years the event has evolved and grown and I've sought to expand the level of participation to include other like minded performance saloon car enthusiasts and last year we extended that to include members of Pistonheads.  I've noted that you and a few others from Pistonheads are fairly regular track-dayers at Combe which is why I have contacted each one of you separately, by email.

MRG have already paid a deposit to the circuit office, to secure the booking for the 20th of June and I am tasked with collecting the balance which needs to be paid to the circuit in advance of the event, as MRG are unable to accept payments into the business for this purpose.  I totally understand your concerns so please feel free to contact Maria Fisher (track day co-ordinator) at Castle Combe circuit office, and also Simon Chiu (Service Manager) at MRG Chippenham for further verification of the event, to put your mind at ease; I will include their details below.  Currently, the payment deadline is Sunday 16th March 2014 for drivers places - this is to ensure that the circuit gets paid within the agreed time-frame.  I would also recommend that you contact Jim Cameron to ask for his experience(s) of the event(s) and also his dealings with me, as he personally attended last year and this year will be the 3rd year running that we're having a contingent from Mission Motorsport.

As I've said the event is entire non-profit and everything that is left over from the various fund-raising activities goes towards a good cause.  Donations from previous years have gone to Save The Children, The DEC Haiti & Japanese Tsunami Appeals, Dorothy House Hospice and last year it was Mission Motorsport.

Thanks for the update Jason, I'll have to pass I'm afraid. No spare cash in March as paying car tax.

Next time.

possibly (if hotel skud is available ;) ) I'll check schedule....

No problem good sir. Although it is quite a trek from mine.

Just looked it up 127miles away.
