Yeti to octavia mk3

Featured Replies

Just wondering if there are any yeti owners who have changed to the octavia mk3 as am considering this so would be helpful to hear your views.

Not for a mk3,but i changed back from my yeti to a mk2 vrs couple of years ago, yeti was a good car,but not as good as the octavia,so a mk3 would probably be better still

I had a 1.4 Yeti, then a diesel Roomster, now a petrol VRS Octy. The Octy has the same relaxed feel as the Yeti did, but the Octy feels bigger inside and has a usefully bigger boot. Handling is sharper and it's quieter too, which you would probably expect as it's not as tall as the Yeti, but everything is a notch or two better in the Octy, for me anyway. Economy isn't really comparable, as the engine sizes are different in my case, but the 2 litre Octavia is almost as good on fuel as my old 1.4 Yeti was, and it's only done 1000 miles or so.

After two Yeti TDI 4x4's I switched to an Octy III 150 4x4 a month ago and in that time managed to clock up over 1500 miles.

Overall I feel the Octy has the edge over the Yeti, seems quieter and smoother to drive, also has a more precise gear change and the switches particularly for the climate control are easier to find. Further impressed with the infomat system, makes changing the cars setting much more straight forward than via the maxidot and the cabin/load space is vast compared to what I'm used to. Oh and I'm getting around 4.5mpg more currently than I did with Yeti no. 2 and making a good saving on RFL but the insurance has gone up with opting for the 150 motor, which suits the car I feel.

There are the odd minor negative points in that I don't think the paint finish is as good as that on my two Monsters, for example the bumper match is not as precise. The steering also feels over sensitive and twitchy at motorway speeds but at the same time it drives fairly straight hands off; mind I went almost straight onto winters, so I'm waiting to compare with the factory tyres. Another odd one is 30mph and fourth gear which don't work to well together; feels as if it's labouring with a bit of steering wheel vibration but with miles it's getting better; third at that speed feels a little revvy.

Then there's parking which can be challenging at times due to it's length/ width and the slight loss in view with a drop in both seat and ride height being noted initially but I've got quickly used to the slightly lower position.

Overall though I'm pleased with the switch and I'm happy to recommend the Octy to anyone thinking of getting one, despite the odd minor negative comment made in this initial comparative impression.

I had two 110 2wd yeti and now own a diesel vrs estate. when I picked up the vrs even my daughter noticed the difference in ride and noise. also am returning the same (or slightly better ) fuel consumption. im glad I changed.
