Re-mapped vRS from main dealer

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is unique or not, but I got a phone call from the main dealer I bought my car from last week, asking if I would like it re-mapping?

He has promised that this work will NOT effect the terms and conditions of the warranty, so long as the work is carried out in thier workshop. The reason he gives is that they are not physically adding/taking anything away from the stock car, therefore it is not a modification. "Chipping it" would be a modification.

He is asking for

There have been a few dealers offering this in the past.

Despite what they say though this *will* invalidate your warranty if skoda find out about it. The supplying dealer will be happy to carry out any repairs and forget to mention to skoda that the car is remapped.

As long as you are using them then you won't have any problems , but if the dealership changes hands or goes out of business and you have to go elsewhere then you will have to hope they don't spot the remap.

I would want to know who's map it is.

There used to be a Skoda dealer in Kirkcaldy who offered factory cars re-mapped by Star Performance. They have now shut down though :(

I knew a salesman who told me their demonstrators were remapped too. Seems a bit of a con to me but......

anyway, it's not unique but certainly unusual.

Personally I would go for it- I paid more than

My new [not-so-local] dealer has offered this to me on my Furby vRS which I have on order (gets built soon! :D). From reading here I've been under the impression that it's best to wait a few thousand miles at least before remapping... Am I right, or would it be fine to have it remapped from new?

If Dealers are doing this I would suggest you DONT POST THEIR DETAILS or PM them to anyone you dont know.

I think Skoda might just give them grief if they find out its being promoted by any dealers

If it's an off the shelf map and the dealer is happy to honour any subsequent claims then I see no reason why not to.

The reason many wait is firstly to identify any faults and secondly many have a custom map which means putting the car on the rollers which should be avoided for at lease the first 1k miles.

I bought my car from that dealership too' date=' but i took it unmapped and took it to star myself and got it cheaper than the dealer was offering.

Was the salesman your talking about called paul?[/quote']

All of this before Arnold Clark took them over and got rid of the franchise. The Salesman was Paul and I bought the last remapped VRS they sold. Unfortunalty all of the promises about not affecting warrenty went out of the window when Arnold Clark took them over.

Arnold Clark didn't get rid of the franchise, Arnold Clark are desperate for a Skoda Franchise as they want all the taxi business in Scotland, but Skoda will not let Arnold Clark have any franchises, as they have the same opinion of Arnold Shark as me and don't trust them with a barge pole! Same happened with Ingrams.

My local dealer offers all Revo poducts. They are also willing to do brake and suspension upgrades.

They used to have a demonstrator with Revo remap, nitrous, brake upgrade, 17's, exhaust, intake mods, and coilover suspension.

As has been said before your dealer may undertake the warranty work and claim off Skoda without mentioning the mods.

Cheers

Lee

Not sure. Small guy, bald head, moustache- used to be a valeter at Curtis Vauxhall in Kirkcaldy before he became a salesman. Now at Arnold Clark Mazda I think.

You guys from the area? I'm Kirkcaldy myself.

Back on the subject, would be a good idea to check which map it is and how much you can get it for if you're a walk in customer- you don't want to be ripped off by the dealer!

As for warranty, I got my Golf re-mapped when it was 18 months old and it's had warranty work done since. Not a word was said. It had Eibach suspension at the time too.

I'm sure Jim at Star told me their DPT remap is undetectable by diagnostic software, so if your dealer can't prove it's been mapped they cant deny you a warranty claim. ;)

Thinking about it more, I would change my mind and say take the car standard, then once you get used to the power remap it. Assuming the dealer isn't offering you a huge saving obviously!

Personally I think I'll take it as standard, and after a year once I'm used it it and get tempted by more power I'll get it remapped, which should peak my interest again... Should save me trading in after a year like I am with my Octy 2!

My dealer pointed out the remapping potential before I bought the car...

TBQFH i thought that lot were a bunch of lying cheating b@stids IMO of course, i eventually reported them to the financial ombudsman due to some frankly dodgy tatics used to arrange the HP on the car which was leaving me with a rediculos interest rate. sorted now tho

thats the standard party line, but at the end of the day its a dangerous road to take if you want to keep your warranty, i think Most of the guys on here are of the opinion if you mod your motor then you take responsibility for the loss of your warranty.

What if your circuitry knackers and you cant remove the map?? screwed imo

Especially remembering that big brother (Skoda) is watching you on this site as has been prooved previously!

My Fabia is of course unmapped mr dealer.lol ;)
