The wife is pressurising me to sell for a "Sensible" car.

She said I am spending too much on it - admittedly the recent engine and turbo was a bit of a blow but....

 

What should I do???

In all seriousness, after what you have just spent, it should now be cheaper to run, so keep it otherwise you won't get your monies worth.

It is sensible. Reasonably spacious and economical. Offer to replace the wife for a more sensible one?

Modified cars can be a bit expensive, but considering it averages over 50mpg it seems sensible to me.

I think she actually means "boring".

As ever, if you do something daft, drop me a PM.

If you have children then you should probably get rid of it on the basis that such a highly modified car will continue to be unreliable and expensive to maintain to the detriment of your family.

 

If you don't have kids and you want to keep it then you should probably tell the wife to leave your hobbies alone and pursue her own interests and that it's really none of her business what you do with the money you earn as long as you're still paying your share of the bills and doing the things you want to do together.

 

Basically if you can afford it without compromising then what car you drive is your personal decision and not hers.

Exactly, it would have to sell way above the going rate to get anywhere near what has been spent on it and that isnt likely to happen.

As a woman, I say keep the car. I can understand how going from a teeny Kia to that would be scary for your wife though- has she been driving long? It also sounds like the car's not the real problem- something else is bothering her and she's putting it on the car. Could she be worried about you having an accident it in? Do you drive like a loon? (Mostly joking, but if you drive a lot quicker than she does, I can understand her worrying about you even if you're driving safely.)

Could you not reel back some of the modifications to make the car you have more reliable (although less fun) ? A gentler (although still not standard) remap maybe?

After all the money spent on it it would be daft to get rid now IMO. Get an STS unit (or the like) and have 2 maps.... a man map and a girls map :p
