  • Send Bossfox a pm, don't think he's bought a car in the last 24 hrs! Think he might like that one back! In all seriousness, after what you have just spent, it should now be cheaper to run, so keep it

what on earth's name are you on about.

i haven't mentioned anything of the likes in this thread.

i also like the fabia vrs, i have had 2 previously.

i know the OP has spent a lot of money repairing the car in question, i just hope that it doesn't cost him any more in the foreseeable future. My reasoning for selling it would be a financial one, cut and run as they say

Keep it Darren, its a cracking car.

The question is, is it as simple as getting uprated injectors fitted and a map to suit with the spec of the car? I know I'm interested personally if it'll improve reliability, smoke less and perhaps result in a bit more power.

The car is going great now, and producing the same power etc as before and to be honest is smoking less anyway (possibly because the turbo had some issues).

The original post was not to do with the reliability per se (although the wife was not happy with me having to buy an new engine etc) but was more about her questioning why I needed a car as modified as it was in the first place.

She thinks its time I had a sensible car and does not really appreciate the enjoyment I get from it.

Are you in a position to keep the fab as a weekend car/ toy and have a boring car for lugging the missus around?

Don't do it! She wants to put you into one of these !

If it had major engine and turbo work already it shouldn't need doing again any time soon, so you know you have a relatively hassle free few years of motoring.

If you buy another second hand car there is no way of telling how long similar part are going to last before they also new work.

People categorise cars differently.

Most people will see a car as simply nothing more than a 'tool'

To us enthusiasts, we see them as toys AND tools (if it's your daily)

You have the best of both worlds with it being your daily... Still getting over 50mph and is so so much fun. Why on earth would you possibly change it!? Sounds silly. Keep keep keep

:)

Keep it, despite anyones assertions no other car of the same age, which is probably what you will end up with, will be much more reliable. That includes citroens, bmw, etc etc....its the case of "better the devil you know".....

If in any doubt, check the owners reliability surveys. Its high in the list and there are a few citroens and one bmw above it on that list but I would doubt you'd have the money for a Z3 - or the inclination for something like a saxo or c1

Edit: The only "like for like" car that is more reliable, offering the same level of comfort and power, and not more expensive on average bills too is the Volvo S40. If you do find that you must move perhaps not a bad option ?

I will be in contact WHEN  she gets her way!!

FTFY ;)

Yes I guess its inevitable, only a matter of time

Keep the VRS buy a cheap car which she will hate too and then maybe she will prefer your car!

How about.....say.....the ford escort Gti in the cars for sale section?

And.....he walks away casually! ;-)

Get something old that breaks down all the time.

Then after a month of being off the road every few days say you've had enough and you're buying the Fabia back.

Or just say you like it.

That's why you have two cars isn't it?

My wife moans about my car. We've always had modified cars but now she's nearly 30 apparently it looks chavvy now and she moans like **** about the coilovers. I just tell her it's done to my taste and I like it. I agree completely the stiff ride is what makes the car fun to drive

Slight derail, but what's on the side of your car in the display picture?

I had to use a online thing to shrink the picture for my profile pic and it put some text across it then it wanted me to subscribe to do another so I left it

I'm lucky, SWMBO has a more modified car than I do! (slower, but it's on coilovers with a loud exhaust etc)

Ooh right.. I was thinking the missus' moaning might have been justified if it had big transfers running down the side like that haha

Ha ha no I'm not a fan of stickers at all so no chance of that. The brisky sticker is the first sticker I've ever had on a car. According to her anthracite wheels make it look chavvy although we had red wheels on our last car!! I'm going to go back silver at some point anyway and if I was to put some lowering springs on to make it less bouncy and a back box on to get rid of the jet engine sound at idle she'd be happy then (I'm sure there'd be something else to moan about after that though)

Mrs G has got a bright yellow Fiat 500.

And as a result, has no room to talk about anybodies taste in cars.

It looks like a massive lemon sherbet.

Taste is one thing, usability and money are others. Separate the arguments. Is it supposed to be your car or yours with a tilt towards the family? Is she supposed to be able to use it when needed? Does she have her own car?

If she's going to be an accountant, eventually, you'll be called in to the office to explain your "expenses" - LOL :)

My old car used to look like this:

So my current one is discreet!!

EDIT - found a pic of both our cars at a show.
