Hi All new to the site so first of all would like to say it seems like a really good group here ..after reading through lots of posts everybody seems very helpful and friendly.

 

After reading lots of reviews and hearing about the reliability of skoda i decided to take the plunge.

 

was looking for an estate and found from a local dealer (at around about average price) 

 

2004 Skoda Fabia Ambiente Estate 1.4 16V Petrol

 

bought a year warranty on top .

 

had the car 1 week so far have noticed the following issues.

 

Door seals leaking (lots of condensation)

cover missing from passenger footwell pollen filter (blowing cold air out )

passenger window control goes down but wont put window up (drivers side works both fine)

interior light does not come on if set to door open setting.

parking sensors dont work (one short beep followed by one long beep...then nothing)

exhaust emmisions warning light has come on

boot light not working.

upon opening bonnet the channel under the windscreen seems very wet and spongy and rather loose.

 

basically my question is... with all these issues (although some may be considered small combined its a PITA)

 

is it worth letting the dealer repair them within the warranty (surely these should have been basic problems fixed before the car was sold )

 

or get a refund and walk away from a "Bad Car"

1. Condensation is not necessarily caused by the door seals.

2. Get the cover replaced, it's obviously fallen off and been lost.

3. Get the passenger side window switch replaced, these fail commonly.

4. Get the door switches replaced.

5. Get the sensors replaced, they get waterlogged.

6. Get the boot light switch replaced, this is a common failure and can lead to battery drain so the bulb may have been removed.

7. Get the scuttle removed, cleaned out and scuttle drains cleared, this is probably causing the condensation you describe.

 

Give the dealer seven days to get all listed faults rectified or you'll be requiring a full refund, this should light a fire under him.

Check the work has actually been done before accepting the car again.

RE;door seals... these have definitely gone, after the heavy rain showers today opened rear doors and they are actually dripping water from the door cards....and looking underneath the small storage compartment (on door) it is discoloured on the material... there is water behind the rubber seal on the actual car aswell as on the body coloured door sill slight moisture to carpets... this is on both rear doors and front passenger side.

 

I will do as you say list the faults and give them a week!!

 

they have assured me the cambelt was changed 2 years ago.. I asked for proof..and they have agreed to give it to me in writing that the cambelt will be covered under warranty for 2 years .

 

 

The thing i am most paranoid about now is if the interior,electrics and cosmetic aspects of the car are in this sort of state from their forecourt what is the mechanical side of things going to be like.

 

under a warranty can i push for a Service to be carried out

Ok, but it's more likely that the door window carriers are not properly sealed to the doors and the door drains are blocked, the Fabia has 'wet' doors inasmuch as the water runs down the windows and into the interior of the door before running out of the door drains, onto the sills and thence into the road.

 

You can't really 'push' for a service and to be honest I wouldn't want that dealers 'pet' mechanic doing it anyway, I'd want an independent VW specialist to do it.
