14 PLATE

Featured Replies

Wonder who bought the first 14 plate Fabia vRS MK2, prior to run out.

When will the run out be 64,15 or 65........

Perhaps the oil consumption/engine replacement issues will be sorted by the last one off the line!

Only seen 2.

An i3, and a X* BMW (they all look minging, I can't tell them apart)

Talking about prosperity,I wander how many of these 14 plates are actually owned bought and payed for as opposed to lease hire and bought on the never never.I find it hard to believe that there are that many people out there can actually go out and pay £30000+ cash for a new car! except maybe for ...ankers in London.

I am one of the ...ankers in London, but only a very small amount of us are on anything like mega money. Bought my Superb 18 months ago - first new car I have had for 11 years. My next one will probably be a 24 plate !!

I only work in London.

Does that make me a ...anker or not?

how does anyone find the time/space to **** in London I dont know

So far I've seen:

Sat: Merc GL, Merc E-coupe, Range Rover

Sun: Merc A-class saloon, LR Disco and, I kid you not, a Ford Mustang

Today: Only a 3 series

So times are not hard in the Cheshire triangle.

The real proof of the pudding though will be sighting commercial vehicles now that we are in the working week. That is the true barometer of prosperity.

Yep, 14 plate Audi R8, Merc GL and Range Rover in Tesco's car park this morning!

Plenty of 14 plate Porsche's and Ferrari's at the dealers on Manchester Road too.

Hi guys!

When you relate to 63 plates, 14 plates and so on, is this based on build or registration dates?

Have a nice weekend!

Registration.

Sometimes they are months older, but nobody cares.

They just like to look like they have a new car. ;)

But it it's only new until the next reg. period, 6mths.

Jealous much?

Never seen the point of an annual 'plate' release myself. All it does it creat two spikes in sales. Far better IMO to have the total sales spread out across the year. Used sales could also benefit then as buyers would look more at mileage/ history rather than what year/ reg the car has.

I have seen lots of 14 plates over the past week. My first was on Saturday (1st) morning! Some people in this country still have plenty of money.

Or a PCP.....

....or more money than sense.......

Think of the depreciation as it drives off the forecourt............

If I ever wanted a current registered car, I wouldn't even think of buying new, I'd look at an ex-demo a couple of months old and thousands cheaper.

Mike

Ah, but if I'd tried to do that I wouldn't have been able to get the spec I wanted, and more importantly I would have missed out on the 0% finance and free servicing. That's worth a couple of thousand in interest charges.

You'd be surprised, with manufacturer incentives, it's often cheaper to buy new than buy 3 to 6 months old.

I have been looking at the BMW Baby forum as have been thinking about a 120d. It amazes me the amount spend on pcp deals. Change cars very often and seem completely ignoant of any overall costs. They will no doubt blame everyone but themselves when they cannot meet replayments.

One of the other Briskoda members stated a while ago that the BMW forum were a bunch of to@@ers I am quite sure he is right.

That seems a strange level of aggression! Did you not get the warm welcome over there you were expecting or something?

There are plenty of Briskoda members purchasing their cars through pcp plans by the way, so let's not kid ourselves that Skoda drivers are all high rolling £25k down in cash car buyers!

Don't understand why we didn't adopt the system used in some countries that show both the year AND month of registration, fraction style.

I'm sure I read over the weekend that approx 75% of all new private car purchases are on some form of finance.

Manufacturers often offer extra incentives (discounts) to buy using their finance.

Even though interest rates on savings are almost non-existent, I still prefer having some cash in the bank.

no not aggression, but having hung about that forum for a while people seem so very shallow and materialistic . Maybe I am just becoming older, grumpier and less tolerant but there seem to be a disproportionate amount of idiots.

Briskoda is definately one of the better motoring forums.

Maybe, but I guess respect is a two way process and, having just seem some of your posts over there, you didn't come across as being particularly friendly. For instance, misunderstanding somebody's thread about terminating their pcp due to a company car situation, and telling them that they should have thought about whether they could afford their payments before buying their car, is obviously going to put people's backs up.

You should have stuck to taking the mickey of that plonker who has a profile pic of him in his pants, as that was much more entertaining.

Indeed.

At the end of the day, credit is just as much of a benefit to the economy as it is a burden ... As long as people flex their credit muscle with a sensible degree of responsibility. I've got no problem buying a car on credit, but my car payment is just under 10% of my monthly take home pay and just under 5% of my joint household take home. I can still use this figure to drive around in a much nicer, new car than I would otherwise have the privilege of driving.

The police will tell you that they really like the two digit year identifier as that's usually the one part that witnesses manage to remember if they don't get the full number plate and they don't want it complicating.

I think the motor trade like the twice yearly plate change too. For all the hassle of dealing with peaks, it does definitely help sales.

Granted but the op did not mention a company car. And why would one put down a 3k deposit if still considering a co car instead of purchasing? I was not meaning whether or not they could afford it but surely someone would work out their budget before commiting to a purchase. Maybe I just didnt understand them nor them me,
