Buying new v's 1 yr old vRS

Featured Replies

Apart from the fact that you enjoy that new car feeling what are the other potential benefits of buying new as opposed to 1 year old... Obviously you have the full 3 year warantee which is the main reason, but is the

When I bought my car, the second hand option was more expensive and it was impossible to find the combination of options I wanted. As you can pick them up new for circa 11500 it seems stupid to buy second hand!

I normally buy ex demonstrators, but the difference between new and used when I bought my Vrs was about

2nd hand low milers for me as I hate the wait for a new car to be built and also the money it loses driving off the forecourt

I was really lucky, i only had to wait 9 days from ordering to driving the car, it can take a LOT longer though.

Pre Reg's at many dealers are good at the moment. My local has one and one in Chichester has some too. Spec would be the issue though. Ben (subvertbeats) has just been through the same situation - he bought new in the end.

Its a hard choice because second hand prices are so strong because demand is still quite high.

When I bought my 4x4 just over 2 years ago it was 6 months old, pre registered with 600 miles on, cost

Hmmmm tricky one. Thing is, how do you KNOW that a car has been well looked after. I'm not talking about servicing records etc because it's easy enough to have a car serviced. I;m thinking more about how it has been driven etc, it might LOOK all nice and clean and tidy but I dont care much for what anyone says, you dont KNOW for sure.

The previous owner might have redlined it and beyond everyday, might have habitually laboured the engine which we are told is pretty bad for an engine. He/she may have put the engine through allsorts and you will be left to pick up the bill later down the line.

I'm not saying this is the case here, and I would hope that this would be a rare thing, all I am saying is I'd go for the new and pay an extra

There's nothing finer than the smell of a new car, except maybe the smell of .....

PS, with residuals so strong and haggling in the quite summer going up to the new reg quite easy, you may only save a small amount of money going used. On the plus side, a low miler will ususally have had any bugs sorted out. Personally, I would go for new (just ordered one). I test drove a 30000 miler and it was taught and rattle free. Condition was excellent, however, the medly of tyres on it showed it had had a hard life. it was up for

Cheers for those coments guys, bit of a mixed bag then... someone buy mine! :-) I'd hade to have to trade it in for less than its worth... :-( ...and see some garage get all the profit!

To sum up;

Pros of new:

New car kudos

3 yr warantee

12,500 pounds (poss 12,000)

Cons:

Rattly stuff (possibly)

3,000 pounds extra (assuming 9,000 for used car - private or 10,500 - Garage)

Needs to be broken in!

Just depends what you want i guess, everyone is different, and i think thats a very good thing... p.s. you should all be watching Big Brither now!

Which all goes out of the window if you see how the people drive them off the ferries ;)

I may have tested the rev limiter on one or two Renaults whilst working in Southampton :D;)

bought mine second hand from dealer, 10300. 1 lady owner (60) done 4000 miles.

Yeah I did a lot of sums based on my 30k miles a year, and new definitely came out as the best option when you factor everything in :)

Done 1k miles in 1 week now !!

Or when they PDi them, cars get ragged from day one long before they get to it's first owner!

Best going for the best deal as all cars have a warrenty!! New, pre-reg or pre-owned chances are all will smell new

The difference there is that 15 miles of ragging during the first 3000 isn't too bad, buying second hand it MIGHT have had that for the full breaking in period, which can lead to issues later on.

Ex demo's on the other hand have had absolutely NO easy miles EVER! I wouldn't touch one with a barge-pole!
