Debadged car

Featured Replies

I have debadged the rear of skoda fabia 1.4 2003 I have been left with the letters clearly visible, ghost I think I what you call it. I have tried t cut is there anything else I can try.

And is there any subtle changes I can make to make the overall look of the car better, thanks.

The paint under the badge won't have faded, the rest of the car will have faded around the badge.

If you can post a pic of the car, that'd help a lot

What process did you use in removal of the badges?

As above, pictures.

You just need a stronger grade polish to remove the marks or a hell of alot more elbow grease with the srp. Quickest way would be to find a bodyshop give em a couple quid and get them to machine polish the boot!

Toffee wheel, tar remove, claybar.

Any of those should help.

How much money do you reckon that will cost mate

Panel wipe is you best friend to removed that remaining stickiness which is no doubt the bit you can still see.

If push comes to shove use standard gun wash / paint thinners. The type you clean paint equipment with and then go over the top with panel wipe. This is to neutralize the Thinners.

It's a shame your not closer, i would have machine polished the the Bootlid.

Best advice i can give on that is.

Stay away from T Cut and find a local body shop. I very much doubt they will charge you a mass amount to polish the remaining marks out.

I wouldnt say more than a 10r if that, they may even do it for a free.

Shall I just ask them to machine polish the boot and it should be sorted?

Happened to me when I debadged mine. Even after wet sanding and machine polishing the outline could still be seen so I ended up putting on a new badge.

I thought my paint had faded badly around the badge too, but a good 10 mins clay barring and some elbow grease with the polish and you couldn't even tell.

If it's that bad I'd chop it in for another one with a badge and not be ashamed to have a Skoda :)

I did someone's badge leftovers at the National last year.  It was odd as the glue looked to have eaten in to the paint over time and I even tried wet sanding & polishing, and couldn't get everything out.  Was very frustrating!

Warm water and a credit card or another plastic card

I used my work ID card and basically scraped it off, you have to press quite card. I did it one letter at a time and had a bottle of warm tap water which i poured over it every now and again to soften it up

It feels like you're scratching the car as you do it but you're not, once the residue of the letters is off, the car will feel nice and smooth

When i removed my old fabia badges ready for the new style vrs badge i had some faint pitting in the paint like a fiant outline, no amount of polishing got it put so i had my mate do a smart repair, quality result and completely blended and invisible.

Dave.

The problem is the paint has faded over the years, and the paint under the badge will be as it left the factory.

Now because the paint is basically a matt colour coat with lacquer over the top to add shine there is no way to correct the fading because its actually faded underneath the lacquer and no amount of polishing short of removing the lacquer will make any difference.

Happened to me on a previous car too, paint had pitted in the glue around all the edges. Just stuck the badges back on and it was sorted.
