light failure chaos

Featured Replies

Hello,

I seem to have all sorts of problems with cars recently... My wife's Fabia is not doing great with mpg (but good other than that), my other car that I just bought already developed some problems and now my Superb seems to be in a huff as well...

I have been moving the cars on the driveway (we have a long driveway but it's quite narrow, so frequently need to change the cars, as I don't want to leave one of the cars on the pavement), and started my Skoda superb. I think I didn't keep the ignition long enough, so the car didn't start. Tried the second time, started just fine, but right from the start the message "check left indicator light" showed up. A second later... check the main beam. Then Check the left dipped beam. check rear brake light. left, then right. Pretty much, check all the lights! Which I did. All of them seem to be working. Unfortunately, the message stays up all the time, and what is also interesting is that when I put the indicators on, there are quite slow to start (like it's a let say 2-3 second delay before the indicators start working normally), but at the same time the indicator light on the dash is blinking 2 times faster than normal ...

Did anyone had similar problems ??

A low battery can cause all sorts of random issues on most modern cars. I'd start by checking voltage of battery.

I have checked the battery, seems absolutely fine (volt + drain check). Of course, when I was checking it, all the lights were gone ... :) Hate these intermittent problems ;)

I had the "check Light" message for the rear reversing light, but when checked the light was ok. Eventually the light did go so I replaced it. Now I get the message for the rear side light, but both the bulbs look ok. The message does not display all of the time. When the the car was in for its 40k service, it was checked and found ok, but they did state that they think that the message start ti display when the amp reading start to drop when the bulb is about to go soon. Sounds a bit iffy for me but

I had this once before with my 09 Twindoor.

It only happened the once, never got to the bottom of it, and since it never happened again never, worried about it.

I had that issue a few times on my last one and on one occasion it was the wiring to front side (dim) lights that became loose/worn.  The connection to the bulb appeared to be quite flimsy and temperamental.  Also happened due to incorrect bulbs - there are slightly different bulbs (in the front anyway) that you can get as replacements, they will all work but some will blow quickly.  Thinking it was only a parking light and wouldn't make much difference I bought fairly generic bulbs in Halfords and they only worked for a few weeks until I got the exact version at the dealer at service.

Could be a faulty convenience module.  I had the same thing happen after a visit to a dealer.  After several hours of running the problem stopped.

My interior lights did not come on and my indicators at he front just lit up and did not flash.  The problem has not reoccurred so no idea what the fix might be.

I've just gone through the same thing, all the lights coming up as faults on initial start up, I thought it was because the Auto lights had switched the lights on and the dip you get in power when starting the car was causing the failure system to falsely pick up all sorts of light failure faults, I was sort of right, turned out my battery was on it's way out because then after a couple of weeks of the lights problem I then had when starting the car a bit of a pause before it kicked over, changed my battery for a brand new one, car started as it should and no light faults since, must be the initial problem was not enough charge in the battery to both power the lights and turn over the engine.
