Insurance Advise

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, Im looking of some advise.

Coming home from work today I was carved up on a motorway slip road by an erratic Exige and as they went across the cross hatching they pebble dashed the front of my car. Had a look when I got home and wings and bonnet are stone chipped as well as the windscreen. I've reported them to Hampshire police and they've put it down as careless driving to investigate. I was wondering if anyone has had any kind of experience like this and if you think its worth contacting my insurance about possibly claiming? I have caught it on my dash cam and also caught up to the exige! and had a massive rant at them. Told them I would report it too. Because of the camera I have the registration and car but I didn't get the drivers details (partly as I jumped out at traffic lights), would this matter?

Cheers

Richie

you'd be claiming on their insurance so i don't see that you've got anything to lose.

That's what I was hoping. Although I've got video evidence of the dirt being kicked up, I didn't know if that woukt be enough to claim of their insurance. I've got 18 years no claims and don't want a blemish on it if I can help it.

Id upload the video but can't get it small enough.

Moved to insurance for a better response

Due to the presence of a motor vehicle on a road (the exige) damage is caused to any other vehicle (yours) or injury to any person other than the driver of that vehicle (not relevant).

Bit more to it but that is basically what the law says so he should have a/ stopped and b/ given his details to any person requiring them i.e. you.

Not only careless driving but fail to stop and fail to report also.

He could have said he wasn't aware of the incident but it appears you may have informed him. ;)

The questions are. How will it effect your no claim bonus and how much is your excess. Unfortunately it could be more costly in the long run to claim rather than bite the bullet and pay for the damage.Unfortunately that's how insurance companies make their millions.

Be careful, you will be making a claim, even if it's not on your policy, may come back to haunt you. It happened to me years ago when an OAP drove into my stationary car. I had a huge subsequent battle with my insurance company despite my no fault claim from the other party.

Thanks for all your replies. Think your confirming what I expected about making a claim. Think I may have to bite the bullet and pay for any repairs myself. Used chips away before so may try them again. Really don't fancy a big insurance battle. Just waiting to hear back from Hampshire traffic police now.

Cheers guys
