As can be seen, just the bottom coil and both roughly in exactly the same place.

Collected the car to the comment "Well that was easy to do, but I wish you'd told me you didn't have locking bolts, I spent ages looking for the key!"

Accounts lady asked could I come back Monday to pay the bill!! Oh it is a joy living here.

Now what can I do with these?

Boing, boing!

That's exactly where the BMW rears snap too. "Losing" just the bottom coil which is flattened anyway. Hence little or no perceptible change in ride height or spring's performance.

Not sure which comes first silver1011, the corrosion, or the extra flexing at this point of the coil, which then flakes off the paint and opens up microscopic fatigue cracks, so rendering the metal more vulnerable to corrosion. Certainly agree the corrosion then accelerates the failure.

How much were the replacements Graham?  Parts v. labour?  Or have you not been back to find out yet?  Just thinking 'cos there's a huge number of replacements for BMWs out there, for DIY fitment. Wondering if the Yeti is as easy to swap in - for when my time comes?

Springs were said to be £40 each and they had the car from 0930 until 1200, but I won't get the bill until next week.

Remember we work in Llani time around here!!

They did say they were easy to do.

I know several of the van-alike MPV's have had springs break,

when used to tow light caravans.

The owners were told they were not tempered properly and

the spring manufacturer supplied several companies.

I can do you a cracking deal on some air suspension if you don't want to risk having it happen again Graham. :)
