Yes, but know one actually has paid list price for a vRS by the sounds of things.

Now that the VAT free offer has ended, sales have slowed down hence why Skoda are saying they're not going to make another.

I can't do too much to it as it's Mrs T's commuter! She likes it because of the DSG, sat nav, audio system, heated seats etc. She's not known for pressing on.

I'm the same as your other half - not the most enthusiastic of drivers - it's my weekend runabout and it does the job nicely for me.

Ford Mondeo Titanium Ecoboost Powershift 203 BHP wonderful New or Used.

Good bargain used.

For the price you pay for 1 new Mondeo Ecoboost Titanium 203/240 bhp you could have bought 2 new or nearly new Fabia Mk2 2 vRS.

A nice 6-7 year old Mondeo can be bought for £10,000 at a dealer, worth about £8,000

a nice almost 4 year old vRS can be bought for £8,500, worth about £7,500

(so 2 Fabias bought for the same as the Mondeo now worth about £15,000)

PQ25 Chassis/Platform

Ibiza Mk4 2008, Fabia mk2 FL 2010, VW Polo Mk5 2009 . Audi A1 Typ X8

(5 door Fabia DSG lighter than the others in 3 door with DSG)

Fabia MK2 FL available as Hatch or Estate.

Fabia vRS sold more after VAT free than during,

and the same amount were first registered just about

as Petrol Monte Carlos last year.

First Registered numbers by Skoda in the last Quarter of 2013 or First Quarter of 2014

is not yet available.

First Registered or VED bought is not the same as being sold to customers.

They are just cars, so you try them and if you like buy, and if not dont.

Hardly rocket science.

If you buy and find you do not like it or can safely drive it, best get shot of it.

Well, apart from this poor bugger -

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/304498-have-i-been-ripped-off-by-dealer/

It's the nearly-new market where bargains are to be had. I bought mine when it just turned one and still think the package for the money (especially when the extras are included - Climate, cruise, Bluetooth and parking sensors) was superb value.

I paid £10k for my 3-year old vehicle with 40k miles last December.

I love it - several of these posts seem to suggest the VRS is too powerful for the Sports suspension.

You could interpret that as meaning my 105 bhp CR Monte is just about all you'll ever need...I never have a drama getting the power down, going around bends, not feeling scared to death.

So, as I am now apparently keeping the Monte forever (says Mrs PDIBK at least), maybe I should invest in RARB, springs, remap...135bhp (ish), a bit more control for the twisty bits and one of those fangled sticks in the middle to change gear with.

Also, LOADS of mid-range torque (more with a remap), those natty black wheels/wheel arches/roof and headlights (ignore the fact I can't see at night) and I'm onto a winner.

All for less than a VRS, new, used or however you want to float it.

Tee hee!

No worries then. Sensible Mrs T- ENJOY  Your motor and don't let the Old Man complain!

tweenster,

thats is how they are a good bargain buy.

What did someone pay for the Ford new in 2010 ?

£16,000-£17,000 drop in 3 years is OK with some people or more like companies.

Anyone in 2010 that wanted or needed a new Mondeo sized car will have bought/leased the Ford, or a BMW 3 Series, VW Passat, Skoda Octavia, Seat, Volvo, Honda,Toyota, Merc etc of that size.

Paid the £24,000 to £30,000 and had the car they wanted, or had to take

& now Used buyers can get them for half that money or even less.

2010/11 & you wanted a small 180 ps car for around £15,000-£17,000 the choice was not so big,

& not so much choice in new 5 Door Autos with 180 ps for under £17,000.

More like £18,000-£22,000 then and still now, and £17,000 might get a New 3 door manual and thats it.

So choices are a good thing.

If you do not want or like some choices,

it is a logical no brainer, just dont waste your time buying one.

For a used Hot Hatch 3 door Auto there are cars that were expensive in 2010 like a Volvo C30

that are a good bargain buy now.

Some good choices in Ford autos that are bigger than Fiesta size as well.

But if you want Middle sizes to Big cars, there are so many to choice from.

If you accept that the Fabia vRS is a pleasant way to get you from A to B at a reasonable rate of knots, gives reasonable economy and yet has plenty of grunt to overtake when required, it is an excellent car. It's not a sports car and I honestly don't believe any owners think that it is. It is fun and affordable. I didn't mean to start a flame war with my original post but as a new Fabia owner I thought it was an interesting comparison.

Very interesting comparison, and i think there are many here that have had choices of cars

over the years, and still have now.

So they can compare. Ones they had, ones they have and ones they try, ones they want and ones that they are not interested in..

There are some that have not even tried some cars but like to give opinions on them from having read something online.

Try parallel parking or parking at a supermarket in the Mondeo...

100% yes. Great description :-)

I used to have a 3.0V6 Mondeo and looked at trading it in for a Mondeo 240bhp Ecoboost. A great drive even though Ford lost the V6 soundtrack.

Unfortunately a longer commute meant I had to look for more economy so I swapped to the Passat.

Recently been looking at the Mondeo 200ps 330lbft 2.2TDCi.

Mondeo's have always had great handling and feel, the Mk4's are rather large though, wont fit n a standard 16' garage.

Cheers

I still have a 3.0 V6 Mondy & I sometimes regret buying a Superb as it's intended replacement.

I've kept the Mondeo 'cos 1;- I still need an estate car at times, 2:- it owes me nothing & 3:- it's such good fun to drive, & refined as well.

My garage measure 16'10" x 8'6" so it's long enough for either car, but I'm not so sure that I could get any current Mondeo though the garage door without folding the mirrors.

'Tis a pity that the V6 is considered too dirty for a modern car, I've had 3 V6 Mondeo Estates,  for a total of 11+ years & 118K miles, they were all

much better to own & use than the average motorist realized, even though they were "only" Fords!

Try parallel parking or parking at a supermarket in the Mondeo...

LOL! We drive around to find a large enough space or cheat, and take the Fabia!

And don't go near a multi-storey with the Mondeo!

I paid £10k for my 3-year old vehicle with 40k miles last December.

Oh dear.....

I paid £.8.4K for my (then) 2 year old Ghia X estate, with 10K miles & one previous (Ford Motor Co.) owner.

A very large chunk of depreciation from it's original £.23K cost, some of that born by the dealer who had paid £.3.5K more for it from Ford at

a closed auction!

Most punters are probably scared by the high VED & running costs, but since I'm a low-mileage retired bloke & can do basic arithmetic the last 5+ years have cost me (at worst), £.8.4K in deprecation, highish VED, reasonable insurance & 29 mpg at whatever petrol has cost over 35+K miles.

Probably a lot less than if I'd bought a 1/2 decent diesel Focus or Ocy Estate back in 2008 with lower running costs, but less comfort & higher depreciation +  finance charges.

We all have some level of choice in how we spend our own money, & just 'cos I'm not a vRS Fabia fan does not detract from the opinions of those who own & enjoy their cars, & understand their faults & how to improve them.

Enjoy whatever you drive, you only live once!

Not so hard in a Mk 3 Mondy, it's just that little bit narrower & it makes all the difference..............

Oh dear.....

Why "Oh dear"?

Why "Oh dear"?

Yep. You got it for a good price.

The ecoboost hold their money a bit better than the old V6's. With the fuel economy (combined 28mpg) and £465+ road tax the market for the 3.0V6 is small.

But if you don't do many miles you can get an awesome car for the money.

The V6 had sublime handling and silky power delivery with a great soundtrack.

I bought mine in 2008, it was 18 months old, fully kitted out with chilled and heated seats and all the toys and just 7000miles on the clock for £9995.

Kept in 2 years and got £6.5k for it, only £1750 a year depreciation, well happy with that.

Obviously the 3.0V6 was available in ST220 format.

Clarkson's comments at the time were "Every time I drive one of these I think, Why do we buy anything else."

But of course times have changed for all manufacturers and force induction reduces emissions.

Now when they are good cars but do not sell many, that is a good thing.

Thats the vRS problem, and its 3 sisters, flawed for too many people that were not buying one anyway,

and not selling so few as a good Ford that was not selling many..

Still feels like a relative bargain on the new vRS estate we have just bought tho. Was 19.5k list but dealer discount brought that down to exactly 17k. Factor in the 0% PCP and our monthly payments have actually dropped compared to our 2011 VAT-free hatch without putting a single extra penny into the deal.

It's also nice knowing there is no interest so all the monthlies are now paying down the capital. :-)

Obviously for cash buyers the new higher list prices aren't so good as the vat-free deals.
