I'll show how nerdy I am by remembering the registration numbers....

1955 Austin A50 - bought in 1968 OCE 340
1966 MG 1100 - my father gave me his car for my 21st birthday in 1969 LPA 566D
1971 MG 1300 - new from this one onwards - I've been lucky AOT 373J
1973 Austin Maxi PPE 127L
1975 Austin Maxi KPD 191P
1978 Chrysler Horizon DLH 767T (a mistake - should have had a Golf)

Best loved - my first car, the A50, and the Audi, closely followed by the current Octavia. The Renaults were company cars - all reliable but depreciated savagely, and in 2001 I changed to a job with more salary but no car.  So I'm not at all embarrassed about my first car - as I might have been if the Austin had been an Allegro....

Most disappointing - the Mercedes B-class, by a mile.  I couldn't stand the noise and the sluggishness for more than a year.

SWMBO has had about 15 cars since we were married in 1974, starting with a 1965 Mini Traveller, currently with the latest of five MINIs. In contrast we've lived in, but extended, the same house for nearly 40 years. At last we're intending to move this year, on retirement.

Oh go on then. Mine is rather short, perhaps ashamedly so in these circles. But for info, I am 34 years of age and have been driving since I was 17. Oldest first:

'91 Daihatsu Charade (inherited from parents)

'07 Toyota Yaris (current car; part of the package deal that comprises SWMBO)

And now I am a big boy I have ordered my first new car, a 1.4TSi Skoda Octavia wagon Mk3. As you can imagine I am quite excited about it.

Austin Maxi's - My Dad had one and it was an awful car, shed on wheels.

VW Beetle '54 model

Ford Taunus (lhd, German, bought whilst serving there)

Ford Granada 3.0 litre GXL Auto (petrol guzzler!)

Ford Escort Mk 1

Audi 80 GLS (bought new, tax free in Germany)

Another Beetle '64 model ( basic but good, tho' heater burnt the hairs on your legs!)

Mini's x2 - one a dog, the 2nd a good 'un.

Peugeot 205 XLD

Mercedes Benz 190 E Auto ( kept for 12 yrs)

BMW 318 Manual

BMW 728 - a beauty!

Honda Civic Sport Auto

BMW 318 i SE Auto

Honda Insight - the ONLY one out of 'em all to let me down - gearbox failed at 29000 miles

It's interesting to see the lists/types of cars people have driven previously.

I have to say though that the MK3 VRS for me is the best of the bunch, not without it's faults, however still a damn fine car!

It has though taken me 25 years to find out!

1989 Toyota Corolla 1.3 GL

1993 Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL

1994 Peugeot 106XSI (go cart, brilliant fun car)

1997 Subaru Forester

1999 Subaru Forester GT (2.0L import WRX motor)

2001 Subaru WRX liftback (best driving car I've had, not most powerful but fastest point to point)

2004 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon (2.0L turbo AWD wagon, ultimate package of performance, grip and specifications)

2010 Skoda Scout TDI (so practical, economical and zero issues)

2014 Skoda VRS TDI hatch (lets see....)

All manuals.

The Legacy was the best car so far as an overall package but the most expensive too. The most capable and least hassles was the Scout.

Citroen GSA Pallas

Citroen BX19GTi

Vauxhall Chevette

Citroen AX 1.4D Echo

Citroen AX 1.4D Echo (seems appropriate that I had 2 cars named Echo one after the other)

BMW 316i Lux

Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDi Greeline estate

Bearing in mind that there has been some overlap (the BX wasn't sold until I had the first Octavia), I've not changed cars very often during my 32 years of driving. That makes it all the more surprising to me that my current Yeti has only managed to stay for 6 weeks.

My list below,

Peugeot 106

Peugeot 206gti

Renault Clio rs 182

Lotus Elise s

Renault megane rs r26

Skoda octavia vrs mk2
