Avoid Vispa Broadband

Featured Replies

Since the other Broadband topic has been locked; I thought I would make a new one to warn people away from Vispa (just in case you have heard of them).

For many years Vispa were one of the top 10 ISPs for quality of service, but in the last 2-3 years service has deteriorated, and now I compare it unfavourably to the farce that is Talk Talk. Indeed, I discovered yesterday that - without my knowledge or permission - Vispa have transferred my phone line from BT to Talk Talk, which means I am unlikely to ever get my phone number back.

It has now been 11 days since my ADSL line failed, the fault is one I have had several times before and even the BT OR engineer who came out first time said the equipment was faulty and needed changing, yet Vispa continue to drag their feet and ask stupid questions rather than arrange a replacement.

To be fair, the fault IS an unusual one; but 3 years ago when it first occurred, Tech support (Kevin - who apparently quit soon after), got it diagnosed and repaired within 5 days; now they wouldn't even call for an Engineer visit when I requested it on day one.

In fact they ignored everything I said until day 8, when they finally admitted there MIGHT BE a network issue and asked if I wanted an engineer, by then I had had enough and asked for my MAC code.

After no reply I requested it again the next day - still no reply, even an email to complaints got only an automated reply; then I discovered that they had mysteriously changed the T&Cs JUST before the fault occurred, and that I now have to ask for my MAC code by post.

A letter has been sent, lets see what happens.

BTW, my new ISP is AQUISS, who went through the difficulties involved in having an ISP that is not sorting out a fault and has hijacked the phone line; they provisioned a NEW phone line to replace the one now locked into TALK TALK, and set up an engineer visit for the new line and a fibre connection within an hour; not only that, but after doing so, they managed to find a cancellation slot had opened a week before the date they quoted, so I will have my new phone line in only 7 days.

Ring BT and you'll have your line back in 36 hours.

Happened to my sister.

That only works if your line was transferred recently - as in a few days or weeks; I have no idea when they transferred the line, but the issues started about 3 years ago, so I suspect it was then.

Day 11 - no internet.

BT will have written to you and the absence of any bills or direct debits for BT would have been a massive clue.

Unless you never check bills?

I pay my line rental and calls through my ISP, so I never have anything from BT; I set this up after BT sent my phone bill while I was away on holiday for a fortnight and when I returned they had cut me off!!

Sounds like you need to threaten someone that you're contacting OFCOM. ;)

Hope you get a speedy resolution GG.

So either you reactivated your BT line by paying to be reconnected, or you left it "unprovisioned" with only broadband working which is possible to have (had it for 6 months with orange as isp) , but if BT realise would force the ISP to get the line provisioned in order to carry on giving you broadband.

The fact BT cut you off, and you pay your isp for calls says you knowingly transfered everything to your isp.

There are Ofcom guidelines for activating lines and transferring between companies that they must write to you several times during the process, and again at completion.

Given the daily barrage of letters when moving isp to sky and then my landline, I'm finding it hard to believe that they "took over" your line without you knowing.

I have never received any notification from my ISP that they were transferring my line from BT to Talk Talk, the "contract" specifically stated BT line rental and calls package; neither do I know WHEN in the last 7 years it was done, although I know it was probably NOT in the first three years as I dont believe Talk Talk existed at that time!!! I only noticed a problem when trying to check for fibre recently - my number is no longer recognised by any Fibre provider as being valid (except strangely - BT!! - oh, I havent tried Talk Talk's checker as I dont want them, so I dont know if it accepts my phone number or not).

I have been through Vispa's website and checked all News and Service announcements for the last 3 years and found nothing.

As for BT cutting me off, yes, they managed to leave my internet connected for about 12-14 months while we argued over the reconnection fee - but I was with a completely different ISP at the time; they only cut the internet connection after I paid the bill; and I only paid because I was going away for several months and wouldnt be there to continue the fight anyway, so effectively I got 14 months worth of internet line rental for free!!!

Day 15 without a land line internet connection, Vispa have now told me my line was transferred to new equipment on the day my internet connection failed; they still wont say if that equipment is Talk Talks or not; only 36 hours till my new line goes in and either 36 hours or 8 1/2 days till my fibre connection goes live (BTOR have sent me two contradictory messages).
