Clifford Alarms

A Clifford alarm has been the first "modification" i've made to each of my last 3 cars.

The Octy has a Concept 500 fitted and it was not cheap, but i reckon it was well worth the money :)

I rejoined Briskoda in a hurry this morning (couldn't remember password and I was at work) to PM Geoff re: his Blaupunkt. Mine was supposed to be in on Monday when the car was chipped (getting better and better by the way) and serviced but it sent the electrics haywire every time it was connected. Mainly the windows had a mind of their own (really!) plus various dash lights flashed on to suit themselves. Also the H/U itself just generally misbehaved. Three days later and the garage bods are still scratching their heads not helped by the main man being the sort of guy who is never wrong. You know what I mean.

To cut a long story short Geoff let me know that he had no problems installing his so in theory mine should be the same. In the meantime my garage had contacted the Blaupunkt hotline and I ended up on the phone to them. The guy didn't really inspire me with confidence when he started with 'Well, the problem with Fiats...' and proceeded to tell me some guff about manufacturers making the wiring so only their H/Us will work. I told him about Geoff's and all of a sudden it's possible the unit could be faulty. So back to Bluespot who supplied it...

At this point I must say that www.bluespot.co.uk have been excellent. One quick phone call and it's 'Send it straight back, we'll send you another', one more quick phone call to say 'I'm going on holiday on Saturday, any chance of delivery Friday?' and a chap called Martin Wyatt is going to do his utmost and I believe him. Plus he'll probably get sick of hearing from me tomorrow.:D To be continued...

The moral of this story...

Don't get excited about membership numbers Denis, two of them are me.:D

Faulty Unit sounds most likely mate, i meant to PM or E-mail you again and suggest it but i was a bit busy sanding doors down lol

Hope you get it sorted PDQ, it'll be well worth it ;)

How's the chip?....And what did you go for, Revo ?

No it's Superchips. Denis will move this thread in a minute, you watch. First impressions were that there was no real difference but once you get out on the open road it really comes into its own. (For open road read Peak District :D .) In a way it takes a couple of days to appreciate what you've got and now I know what David (who fitted it) was on about with the power delivery. Standard, the line goes up and then starts to level out, the car gets a bit breathless. Now the line just keeps on going up, you chicken out well before the car reaches it's acceleration/performance limit. Do you know what I mean? I'm not talking about standing starts, that's for those ****s we were taking the **** out of with their Max Powered Novas (Nova, sorry, sore point), I just mean general performance. The whole power delivery seems much more progressive, smoother and I'm sure that once I've stopped 'playing' fuel economy may improve just a tad.

You've read my posts. I don't know how engines work. All I know is that I spend most of my working week behind the wheel and getting my RS chipped has improved on the best car I have ever owned.

Not this time. I'm quite happy for vRS owners to hide their chipping experiences in obscure threads if that's what turns them on.

Denis, you're a star.

I hope you're enjoying your 'chip' as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Re: Faulty H/U - it wasn't.

Bluespot did rush me a replacement (Cheers Martin:D ), went back down to the garage, got it wired up, same problem. So the guy who is never wrong (remember him?) gives me a sort of 'See. I told you. It's not compatible. Buy a Gamma off me' look. I more or less apologise to him for wasting his time and drive off. But not back to the office but to a car audio firm round the corner. They try installing it and it works first time. As I have said many times, I wouldn't know a dump valve from a din lead so even though I'd seen my garage connecting and unconnecting the new H/U a few times, I didn't know really what I was looking at. It turns out my garage were connecting the now defunct autochanger, this was what was sending everything a little bit mad. According to the audio people I was lucky both H/Us hadn't blown!

I was able to return triumphant to my garage with the old Skoda H/U for them to store and more importantly because it was such a stupid mistake to make, imply that I'd worked out the problem myself. Result!:D

So, Blaupunkt up and running, lights up like Christmas tree, sounds great, more complicated than a complicated thing... Parametric five band equaliser anyone...

I never thought of the autochanger, though i admit i did connect it up at first, just in case it worked...no such luck, but no electrical gremlins either.....weird

That's right. You should buy an mp3 player. You can fit about 700 Mbytes (80 minutes CD-R) on one disk. Quite a lot of music, isn't it? I owe a Sony CDX-MP30. It's an old player but I am quite satisfied with my purchase. The new mp3 players can play all of the well known formats such as wma files. A friend of mine has bought a DVD player. It is expensive but VERY IMPRESSIVE inside the car. the backseat passenger can watch a DVD movie while travelling.
