Pollen filters; any difference in performance between oem and replica?

Featured Replies

Any difference between them?

Are the non-oem ones cheapo / don't fit properly / don't work properly / whistle etc

Or really no difference?

Dno about cheap ones as iv never used them..

but there are 2 different OEM ones.. 1 has carbon/ charcole filtering and 1 hasnt. The one with is slightly more expensive + its better as it filters diesel soot etc out.

I bought a Bosch one a few weeks ago.

I've used OEM and aftermarket ones, both normal and carbon. Not noticed any difference between any of them. The carbon impregnated ones don't remove more particles but will in theory remove odours and vapours. Though whether there is sufficient contact time between the air and the filter to achieve a significant reduction I don't know.

Carbon ones supposed to be better at removing odours I think.   But in reality if you're following a stinky diesel you'll still smell it, no matter what filter u got in there.

So in my experience,  carbon ones offer nothing extra.

I'd doubt it would be anything you'd notice.

I replaced mine last week with a Mann one.

for the cost of an OEM pollen filter (peanuts) get an OEM one :)

If your following my sdi, with 283k on it, plastic wrapped pollen filters and the vents on recirc wouldnt keep the smell out. It even manages to find me. Sure it can penetrate glass too.

still mot's though.

If K&N made them, would it blow your face off? :giggle:

It would probably spatter you with oil.
