induction (searched and confused)

Featured Replies

I'm currently looking into wether it's better to fit an aftermarket panel filter or a cone kit to the tfsi. I've had a search but not really getting any definitive answers.

I understand a cone will increase the noise and panel will make no noticeable sound difference, but which is actually best for airflow I plan to go stage 2+ in the future so would rather get it right first time.

Any help greatly appreciated.

If your going stage 2+ in the future i would get an Induction kit personally. I baught a K&N Typhoon before i went to a stage 2 remap and the car fealt alot smoother. It also gives a nice sound when mashing the loud pedal. When i had the car remapped im sure it would have added a few extra HP. On their website they claim it can give an extra 18bhp but i think thats abit optomistic

I do fancy a big dirty cone to be honest, is there any pros/cons between wether it's a cotton or foam filter?

I've got autotech on mine, uses a k&n filter and are pretty cheap

I wouldn't use any other filter than k&n tbh, tried pipercross once and lost 5bhp on a different car.

Everyone has different opinions though so have a look through and see what you think.

Seeing this "Adds around 10-15 horsepower and up to 20 ft.lbs of torque is gained on a stage 1 re-flashed 2.0 TFSI motor, and a throaty intake growl when putting the hammer down!" Is that true or just plucking figures out of the sky. I honestly can't see an cone giving them gains.

How do you find yours? Any difference in driveability?

Noticeable difference in both how it performs and ind noise.

Got to be an improvement over standard design as that's a poor idea running a filter on top of a hot engine.

Better pic but ignore the occ piping as this was temp :)

A panel filter will be fine on stage 1 remap, however I ran a pipercross panel filter on stage 1 for about a month before adding an induction kit. Within seconds off driving down the street the difference was clearly obvious. Quicker spool up and less hesitation as well as that extra suction noise ! As you go up in stages you will need an induction kit as the mapping will be requesting more air to make more boost pressure,

Has anybody actually done any reasearch on this, e.g. measuring pressure drop on the intake, dyno figures, etc?

Unless the stock TFSI airbox is super restrictive, I don't see how going for a cone that has a smaller filter area is an improvement.

And yes, more sound can make your car feel faster...
