Hi, could someone please tell me the proper name for these bars in the boot which add rigidity to the chassis please.

 

How easy is it to remove them, is it literally 4 bolts each like it looks or are they deceiving?

 

 

I need some extra space in the boot on one trip so would like to remove them, they're quite obstructive!

similar to Bowders1's work in his boot with rear strut bracing.

The Vrs does come with 2 reinforcing struts, mounted on each side going from near the top of the rear suspension towers  and the other end bolting onto the floorpan. Just checked in ETKA they are called "Backrest" .

If your interested Part numbers are :- 1U6 - 803 - 329 Left side / 1U6 - 803 - 330 Right side

If I recall it is 6 torx bolts each side. Quite straight forward to remove. Needs the seats down to get to the other torx bolts

Think they are called  luggage compartment braces, but skoda Etka has them as backrests????

On a side note, getting ready to call on "the force" to, at long last put Superpro rear beam bushes in, they have been gathering dust in my office lol.

Good luck trying to remove them, the bolts screw into captive nuts, only 2 of the bolts came out of mine, the rest just spins

Got rid of mine, made trips to the tip easier - Just unbolts with the correct size torx  - Haven't noticed any difference to the handling

i still managed to fit a 4 ft chest of drawers in my vrs even with the struts in place :P

Ive had a 2 seater sofa in mine with bars still in place

I aways thought these were factory fit and had images of the car splitting in 2 if i removed them lol

They are factory fit on a vRS, but it's just to stiffen up the rear end a little.

Please could someone post the Torx size.....4 mm is too small.....4.5 mm or maybe 5 mm?

I dont think they are torx bits tbh

They're like an 8mm spline or something like that - M8 or M10.  When I took some out out of the 6 bolts I think only 2 came out and the others span.  Very annoying!

Having asked.....today I managed to borrow an 8mm spline...this fits perfectly!

I don't think they were fitted in the much slower Estate mk1 VRS's ............. Waits for Daves reply !

i need the nearside one if anyone has one they are throwing away!!!!!!
