CAVE vs CTHE the final battle!

Featured Replies

I could possibly have the opportunity to watch a cthe engined vrs on awesomes rollers on friday. Only a possibility at the moment. Just wondered if it would be help to anyone *cough george cough* I have a class of 2010 you see so quite irrelevant to me. Although dealer was trying to 'blag' me into getting a brand new one this morning. Good trade in price sir etc etc.

Anyway back on topic.... hands up please!?!?!

  • I'm guessing which engine produces the most power and torque to litres of oil used over three dyno runs.

  • Hopefully getting RARB fitted in a couple of weeks so while it's in I will ask them to put it on the rollers....  Dont mine paying and the curiosity has got the better of me.

  • Attached to a gps speed device. My car is 6.9 seconds (with some tire slip) and this car did it in 6.2 on cold roads this morning. And felt like it wasnt trying if that makes sense.

What exactly is the question here?

I would be interested, my cthe feels as fast as my old cave with TMC on ( which was 200 bhp )

See sharkrider thats what I was saying today. Got out of my 2010 into a brand spanker and it felt like a completely different engine/powertrain although could be the dsg. I dont know. Thats why im interested to know. Skoda claim its the same power/torque but we all know they tell porkies when it comes to that. It IS quicker to 60 though. By 0.6 of a second

I am just around the corner from Awesome and would like to pop over and watch.  Could be interesting, if you would let us know the times and if thats ok?

That would be fine. Im not 100% yet as it depends on a few things. But yes if it does happen ill put it on this thread.

Would love to see the results of this.

PKoconnor, why not pop your car on the rollers too?

Grinchy, only issue will be if you find it's putting out 200bhp, will you feel forced to trade in

Damn straight I will. I'll ring them and tell them to keep mine....im off!!!

So instead of the your cars 0-62 (100km) which is usually under 7 seconds with accurate timing, did you get under 6.5 with the CTHE,

or are we just about the 7 seconds as you timed it ?

Am I correct in thinking that the stated 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds is actually a little high on either engine? Are most capable of 7 seconds with a successful pull away (no wheel spin).

Wunderbah. thats interesting,

sounds like about the same as a CAVE with Stage 1 or Tuning Box's BHP.

It would be good to see a DYNO on one.

Skoda just make up figures,

I still think a Standard Estate is quicker than a hatch mostly due to the front getting better traction off the line.

(& the CTHE with a better map on the DSG almost certainly)

But now it turns out rather than being 5kg lighter than hatches as bandied about for near 4 years,

they are 70 kg heavier when unladen,

So a pinch of salt is required with Skoda/VAG offical figures.

IMPORTANT.

Woahh, ive just been reading this forum wondering what CAVE and CTHE are and have came across some quite bad horror stories which is putting me off going to collect my new car

im guessing the CTHE engine is the new revised engine?

what year was the CTHE engine fitted to the fabia?

Im picking up an 11 plate fabia and am now crapping myself that the money im saving in petrol will be lost in oil and being out of work getting new engines. what engine should be coming with a 11 plate skoda fabia vrs??!

thanks

Matthew

Dont worry, there are many more good ones than bad, check what warranty work has been done on the one you are buying.

CAVE, June/July 2010- late 2012

CTHE Last Quarter 2012-now

Check and see what Warranty work was done by Skoda if any.

Call 'Skoda UK Customer Services' they will tell you.

If any issues with the car or engine/box they should be sorted by now.

It should not be using oil.

Are you buying from 'Skoda Specialist Cars-John Clark Group' with a Warranty?

Where ever you are buying,

if you want PM the Reg number,

i might know the car.

hey george thank you for your reply,

Im buying the car from here http://www.westendskoda.com/ they are a official skoda garage AFAIK.

I have not asked about warranty, im assuming that it will come with one year?

I do not have the reg number to hand it is currently going through a cherished plate change, back to the original registration.

the car in question is this, they have taken it off their site and other listings online as i have put a deposit down on the car: http://goo.gl/Kno0Ni

Thats the thing, you only ever hear of the bad ones and not the good! so it gets a bit off putting, my friend james has suggested that i ask them for an oil consumption test prior to paying for it. would you say that this is worth while?

I am at Dyce Monday morning before 8am with a vRS Twincharger,

so can catch up with you or a bit later,

or some other time.

Just ask.

EDIT, Good. & looks great.

I do not know that car,  call the Dealer ask them to Send you the Warranty & Service History.

Ask the Registration or VIN.

Call 'Skoda UK Customer Services' and ask the same thing about

'any Warranty Work been done or required ?'

If a Skoda Approved Used Car, there should be no problem.

& when the Warranty buy a 2 year Extended one, costs under £550.

PS EDIT,

Maybe the possible fanboy (Lady) from someplace near to that dealership,, that was big upping them a while back, can be sure the cars all nice and ready for you.

Cool i am hopefully collecting the car this thursday, as this cherished registration is proving a pain to get transferred over. (they cant tax the car yet)

Have you got the likes of facebook? If so PM me a link to your page and i will give you an add :)

Facebook, what is this, never heard of it,

i am one of the vRS near Oldies but already grumpies.

Can catch up with you easy enough.,

you will be passing my place going home on Thursday or when ever up the A90,

(not here on Friday though, but am in Dundee if that suits.)

I am at various car dealership on Friday.

I can dip your oil, !!!

Catch you at a McD or KFC on the A90.

I will give you a Mobile Number, or whatever.

Or get you on Monday if it suits.

A wee blast up to Blackburn Kinellar to see how your car goes..

(rolling start through the camera....)

Have fun,

But please get the Reg Number and call Skoda UK Customer Services, or have the Dealer Email you the History.

It is a nice low mileage car, and hopefully a good one.

I get the impression that you can only extend the warranty on a used Skoda at the end of  the original warranty period, only for a year at a time and at some as yet to be determined price :(

ps - welcome back to t'Internet Briskoda - testing times?

'Impressions are fine, best sometimes to get the facts though'.

The same item as Brian69 & i bought from Skoda Dealerships can be bought from Car Plan cheaper,

so yes to be decided how much in 1 years time.

We bought '2 Year Extended Warranties'. at the end of the 3 year manufacturers warranty,

anyone can do the same at the end of the 12 months Warranty that Comes with an Approved used car,

or at the end of the Manufacturers warranty if within any mileage restrictions with the Warranty Provider.

Do we think that a Large Corporate Organisation like VAG are going to allow 4-5 year old cars not to be able to have Extended Warranties bought for them, or offer such?

What's happening on Friday? I presume you are taking the CTHE for a test drive and it might ahem **cough cough** accidentally get driven onto the rollers? Hehehe.

I'd definitely be interested to see these results. As some of you may know I recently swapped my CAVE hatch for a CTHE estate. They drive very differently! The CTHE feels a lot punchier especially at higher revs.

Wonder if Skoda bought APR's stage 1 map lol and are applying it to CTHE engines?

Would make sense since they've solved the oil issue. (NOT)

Im guessing the oiling is still an issue with the new engine?

i've just done my sums and it appears that if i average 10k a year thats 10 litres of oil, at £15 for 2 litres thats just £150 a year, i spent that doing 300 miles in my focus last weekend, so even so i will still be saving money haha.

and if i get warranty and its really bad i'm guessing the skoda official garage i'm buying it from can run the relevant tests.
