Do you have the control switched to L?

It needs to be in L but the manual sometimes says put in the R position as its written for an RHD market.

Do you have electric seats?

If not then no auto dipping mirrors.

Can be done manually to both mirrors at the same time with mirror switch set to L (unless this had been deactivated with VCDS then it will only do the left mirror).

Electric seats OR factory fitted reversing sensors.

Electric seats OR factory fitted reversing sensors.

First time I've heard of that...

You only need the electric seats with memory, because the mirror positions are memorised in the seat memory ECU. Parking sensors play no part in the function of the dipping mirror.

No Electric memory seats, no seat ECU and therefore no dipping mirrors.

Correct, the mirror X-Y coordinates are stored and managed by the seat memory.

I believe you can also fine tune the dipped position of the mirror when the car is in reverse and mirrors are set to 'L'. Once you're happy, store the position.

I'll double check that one later on.......

Edit: it's on page 69 of the FL manual - in the electric memory seat section.

There are memory motors in the mirrors themselves and I think Eddie has fitted them to his FL octavia without electric seats...

Seems the information is stored in the door controller, not the seat controller.

I've interrogated the seat memory controller in the past with VCDS and found the X-Y info stored there. It also changes in real time when the mirrors are moved,

That's not to say the door controllers can't do something similar.

I've enabled the dipping mirror on SWMBO's vRS - minus memory seat - and it isn't as sophisticated as the one on my Superb, which has the memory seat.

Ah ok thanks. It makes sense that both play a part, but that the seat controller also stores some additional info to allow the mirror position to be stored as part of the seat position, and also be tied to the key.

I had a Jetta with reversing sensors but no electric seats, mirror dipping on reverse worked.  Door controllers were same part number as current superb minus a few versions.

There are two types of mirrors fitted to VAG cars (including Skoda).  One with potentiometers for position sensing and one without.  This is the REAL requirements for dipping mirrors.  These are usually delivered in conjuction with factory reversing sensors and/or memory seats.

Hi, I have the FL 2014 Superb with factory fitted rear sensors but no electrical seats and I was not able to get the right mirror to dip while reversing, not even with the VCDS even though I tried all the tricks I found on the big bad internet ... If anyone succeeds, please let us know the secret ...
