Fabia PD TDI Radiator fan low speed issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a Fabia PD TDI 1.4 2008 model. Recently the radiator fan is not working at the low speed. Due to which the aircon is not cooling the cabin effectively. A thin fuse in the battery has gone. I changed my fan 3 months back. Im worried that I'm might end up spending again.

Can anyone please guide me what would have gone wrong?

Thanks.post-33704-0-62500400-1396012136_thumb.jpg

Looking at your photograph, the two halves of the broken fuse are not aligned.  It looks as though the lower/front nut was tightened without any attempt to prevent the end of the fuse being dragged round by the torque. You can see how the crimp on the end of the wire has been dragged round clockwise also.  This will have put the fuse under mechanical stress from the start, which it was not designed to withstand.  I should think this is why it failed.

Firmly hold the crimp straight while tightening the nut, and don't over-tighten it.

Thank you Wino for your advice. It makes sense. To test, will it be ok to use the unused fuse? It looks heavier though.

It would be OK to do this to test that your fan ( and fan controller) works, but you shouldn't leave it like this. That unused fuse is much higher current, so would not provide protection to the cables etc. and would present a future fire risk if another fault happens.  If the required fuse is 40A (not sure on Mk2 Fabia? Check the manual) then the part number is N10424902, I believe.

It turned out to be an issue with the fan. I gave it to a Skoda service centre to replace under warranty. Thank you for your help.
