octavia mk1 tdi problems please help

Featured Replies

hi, i have a few problems with my octavia mk1 1.9 tdi

since i bought the car the rear window operating switch nearest to me on my door operates both windows but the rear switches work as they should.

the electric mirror switch works both mirrors at the same time not one at a time as they should, so if i want to alter the angle of the pass mirror the drivers also moves.

and just recently my remote key will lock the doors from vey close to car  but not open the doors i have to put key in lock to open. (changed battery tried differnt key)

and if i leave my lights on and get out of the car the buzzer to alert me i have left my lights on dont work

very anoying any ideas plugs in doors seam to look ok to me

Welcome to Briskoda :) Despite the niggles you will love your mk1 :)

Okay... the mirror thing is a bit a oddity... if you adjust the right mirror, it also adjusts the left.

but if you adjust the left, it doesnt move the right (or vice versa, cant remember at the mo).... weird i know, but thats just one of those things..

THe windows - could be

A) a dodgy door switch module - 5 minutes to replace, and 10 quid for the module off ebay,

IF a spraying with contact cleaner into it doesnt sort it :)

B ) Check the wiring at door, where it comes from the main body of the car, wear and tear there can screw up the windows.

Not sure on the keys things though buddy :/

HI. i stumbled on this thread as I was wondering that after a year of owning the 02 plate ambiente I have noticed that the mirrors on my car have never warmed up.

I saw also in another thread that the moving together was not a faulty wireing but the brains gone daft.

the windows not working on all switches on drivers door but on there own switch just says that the drivers switch unit is faulty. I'm not sure if you can change them separately  or just buy a new unit from a breakers

as for your lights I think I have the answer.

if you open your door does the courtesy light illuminate on the door?

if not there's your problem. its a silly little micro switch on the door lock. (common fault and a fiver to fix) but a pain to get at..

is the thread on doing it. (I just bought a new lock. I didnt have the time to mess about)

does anyone know how I can find out if the mirrors are heating or faulty. I don't want to have to buy two new mirrors.

this is my first post so Hi :D

 1.9tdi mk 1 ambiente

You need to have the demister turned on for the wing mirrors to heat up too.  I am not sure that the Ambiente was spec'd with heater mirrors so maybe someone just changed a switch?  Worth checking that the fuse is ok too.

Mirrors (on my 2001), will either move together (L+R), or L by itself.  The idea is that a different driver should in theory need to make the same adjustment to both mirrors, so it can do it one go.  The L means you can lower the nearside mirror to aid with parking.

On mine you have to have the mirror adjust knob in the central position to switch on the heated mirrors.

Same with mine... a safety feature too I would assume.

Ambiente too, and heated mirrors...

Mine is up (anti-clockwise) to heated, middle position is L, and the other L+R.  Nice to see the switches are standard in their configuration ;-)

The key problem will be a flat batterie in the key fob
