This could prove an interesting read :D

I don't think it matter to be honest, you don't have to have a huge amount of power to have fun in a car. modern turbocharged Diesel engines give a supercharged petrol type performance with virtually instantaneous torque on tap, there's virtually no difference in running costs either. So you pays your money and takes your choice.

it also depends largely on what 'performance' cars you are comparing too.

Slightly inebriated or not, I will stand by my comments.

Because performance is more than just torque and bhp, it's the whole experience too. Take, for example, F1 now, it sounds boring, no rise or fall of an engine singing, the car may be faster, more economical, but it's lost something.

Least we not forget the real purpose of this thread for me, as promised on Facebook.   :bandit:

I think personally diesels can be great performance cars, it just takes careful selection if which are and ar'nt.

Who cares what they run on?

BHP/T that's what matters.

Diesels are all slow, smelly, smokey polluting things that sound like tractors.

Lots of people like tractors :hi:

BTCC car would be classed as a performance car I reckon so yeah

How about electric cars, such as, say, the "Smith TheSmith"? ;)

I agree that all diesels are slow and smelly just like this old tractor.audir18-2.jpg

You cant bring tractors to a performance car thread....

High performance but not necessarily fast

I think a big part of a performance car is the sound it makes. The turbo whistle on diesels is lovely and I know certain diesels have a real growl v6 v8 v10 etc. BUT. A diesel could never sound like an AMG v8 or RB26dett or b16b etc.

my point being I think diesels can be performance cars but not in the same way that petrol powered cars are.

I would like veyron with 2000 lbft though... haha and 40mpg.

Porsche sell diesels

Porsche sell diesels

I know they do but i said lambo and ferrari.... Just saying
