How Can I Improve Traction?

First go for better tyres (rubber) by going up to sports class.

Ususally these have soft rubbers and great grip.

Then your dampers must have proper rebound setup.

Then go for LSD with up to 40% engagement for best 0-100km starts or 25-30% for cornering.

The others (traction control solutions, etc) are the last steps.

Of course the cost is accumulative...:)

Dave,

I would concur with the above which also gives other benefits apart from traction.

Thanks Loukas (+ Des)

But can you explain to a layman about the dampers having proper rebound setup?

The KW v2+v3 have adjustable rebound damping which would be quite handy as i'm planning to get one of these.....

Also I thought LSDs were of real benefit when motoring round corners rather than standing starts as you're more likely to have both wheels spinning equally for a standing start no?

Dave, the problem with the LSD is that if you fitted one that was agressive enough for worst case scenarios it would spoil the drive of the car day to day... where as the race logic can be turned up or down or off dependednt on mood/conditions..

sadly unlike GT3 the lsd is not adjustable...

Dave,

To have best starts you need the front tyres to be on best grip.

During accelaration the front part of any car moves up so the front tyres are pushed less.

With stiffer rebound this effect is less so the grip is best.

The KW's V2,3 are OK and i'm considering them for me too.

From standing starts an LSD with 40% engagement is better than an open diff where if one wheel is spinning the start is slow.

It's better to spin two wheels or one?

My recomendation is that if you setup the previous two (tyres & suspension) properly the LSD maybe not needed for best standing starts.

Now if you want to do almost everything (starts, cornering) The LSD at 30% is very good with good handling at very close corners. In open corners is the best.

Be aware that an LSD may worse things in cornering especially if you setup at more than 40%.

I have a quiafe... 3 of em (different motors)

the RS Focus has the same type Quaife (ATB type) I believe.

It does tug on uneven roads, but does'nt spin up an inside wheel.

Traction is superb as a consequence.

Not nasty, just an aquired taste I guess. Traction rules! :D
