Kenwood DNX520VBT Steering functions

Featured Replies

Hello all

New to the forum and this is my first post. I've finally decided to join after observing from a distance the last few months.

I am in need of some advice and understand I may be one of the lucky (or unlucky) ones to have a factory-installed Kenwood DNX520VBT all in one touch screen Garmin SatNav Media unit.

My dilemma is simple; on the steering wheel I have on the left, buttons and a roller for audio volume and skipping tracks/tuning radio, whilst on the right, I have the same buttons for cycling through the cars multi function display (MFD) to show MPG etc.

The problem is that the controls on the right ALSO control the Kenwood SatNav Media unit so every time I scroll to see how what MPG I am doing or how much fuel I have left, it re-tunes the radio or skips a track on the CD/MP3.

Any help would be appreciated - I know this is a 'small' issue and somewhat anal but it's really quite irritating!

Car is a 2011 Octavia vRS MK2 Hatch.

Many thanks,

Hi, welcome to the forum. It sounds like its not been wired in quite right. I'm pretty sure the Octavia never came with that stereo as a factory upgrade but was an accessory available as a dealerfit option. Could be the wrong loom fitted (used one for non maxidot cars)

Thank you. Indeed, my research suggests that the Kenwood is indeed a dealer fit option. Problem is, it's been down to my local Skoda dealership (Lookers Stockport) and they won't investigate further even on my extended warranty as it may not be covered. I don't want some kids from a back street audio shop to start tearing parts of the steering wheel and centre console out though - and I don't mean to cause offence by the way.

Its not too difficult to have a look yourself and there is no steering wheel tearing involved :) remove the stereo and all the wiring is behind it.

Take a look in the Octavia section if your not sure :)

Hope this helps a bit :)
