I'm glad to hear that Matthew. I'm sure it'll exceed my expectations too.

I've done a fair few long journeys in my old vRS (Manchester to Isle of Wight, Manchester to Edinburgh)...   I personally believe the style of it is more suited to the shorter 2 hour drives rather t

  • Just done 1500 miles in six days driving round Scotland, seats extremely comfortable for my wife and I, including 3 1/2 hours without stopping. As for fuel, averaged at 42mpg, that includes motorways

  • The seats are excellent, equally supportive and comfy and oddly, given previous cars I have owned, some of the best I have sat in for keeping me without aches on a long journey. The car itself though

There is A LOT of work involved if you want to soundproof and make a good job of it and for it to make a difference. If your not up for pulling every interior panel and trim off I'd pick up some 15\16 inch wheels and wrap them in good rubber.

Iv done/doing both. Just refurbing a set of 15inch audi a3 rims which I will be using for long journeys and when I need to put on winter tyres.

I'll probably be able to deal with some road noise if I'm honest. I won't go yo the extremes of sound deadening the entire rear half of the car. Bit I can understand why some people might.

Sorry for the spelling mistakes.

I do ~ 100 a day, five days a week. Comfortable ride. At 90kph. I get ~50 mpg using shell nitro.

Seats are excellent for support. I don't feel sensation issues on the legs after driving.

Lights are easy and do not distract. Nice simple dashboard. DSG IS excellent as is the cruise control on a Vrs.

Road noise is high. My next tyre chafe will be to the vredsteins cento. 67db compared to 74 for the continentals. That should help with noise.

I believe that there is a thread somewhere on this site describing how someone installed sound deadening material in a Fabia vRS.

Can you share that link. If be interested

Good idea dip. Well if you can do that kind of mileage then I'm sure I can manage 300 odd miles every 6-8 weeks. All good to hear.

Vredesteins were great on my last vRS estate, but the latest Contis on my new one are much quieter.  Could be refinement of the car, it is certainly better in many respects.

Has anyone had any experiences of hankooks?

Since getting this car, (2 weeks ago) i have been to the petrol station once! I feel like i haven't been in such a long time!

I have high hopes for my 600 mile round trip home over easter.

are you guys really, like really getting 45mpg+ or are you just saying that? if its true i cant wait, its not going to cost me that much! :)

currently this week i have been getting 38mpg to work (nice easy free moving traffic), and 23ish (im sat in HEAVY traffic most of the time/waiting for becky to get out of work!) on my way home after picking my GF up,

these are in rush hour traffic in a city centre BTW!

Edited by matthewl

I personally got over 45 on many occasions and I know Sharkrider often gets over 50 on his commute...

I don't think you will get 600 though, expect about 450 max before you have to fill up again :)

'matthewl'

Thats good economy for cold starts and Aberdeen driving.

(sitting not moving an engine does 0 mpg,.

the lowest i ever get stopped not moving is around 9-11 mpg after 10 minutes or so,

and rush hour gridlock, 22-23 mpg indicated)

A90 this week, Forfar - Dyce,  45 mpg.  Warmer weather 99 ron, Stage 1 MAP..

57 miles, and 60 minutes travel including Bridge of Dee to Dyce.

Normally 360-380 from 40 litres.

(8.8 Gallons so 40 - 43 mpg ususally)

Max ever in the UK using 99 ron, from a Vented Tank,

& then put in 46 litres when showing 50 miles range, 470 miles done.

(10.1 gallons = 46 mpg)

Thats through lots of average speed cameras and non stop.

Round trip to birmingham yesterday from blackpool. Was absolutely fine. Cant wait for my armrest but no comfort issues to speak of. 48mpg calculated. Hitting usual birmingham traffic both ways.

According to Fuelly, the Fabia vRS 1.4 TSI should give an overall average of about 35.3MPG (LINK); I believe that the fuel tank holds about 45 litres, that equates to about 9.9 gallons. Based on those (approximate) figures you should expect an average of about 350 miles per tank, sadly nowhere near 600 :(

Your mileage may vary ;)

'High hopes for my 600 mile round trip'       Does not read as , 'i expect to do 600 miles on a Tankful'.

Officially the tank holds 45 litres.

For trips you can get 53 litres in.

(near 11.5 gallons)

So it you use 45-46 litres & still have reserve. & get 42mpg for the tank full, you can travel 420 miles easily.

450 miles with some easy driving without hypermileing.

George, youre unbelievable with your replies, they are brilliant and never missing any information!

thanks again!

Im hoping 300-350 to the tank on the way home (70mph for 5 hours), any more than that and I really have bought the right car!! :D

How are you finding the stage one map btw? guessing its REVO?

Thanks again.

No not REVO,   But i have had a REVO stage 1 map for a short while on a vRS.

i highly recommend  'avoid at all costs, REVO map on a Twincharger.'

Highly recommend 'APR' and Switchable for Octane of fuel used,

 and lock out 'Other Users/Drivers'.

PS.

For a Standard vRS,   I highly recommend the *Latest Skoda ECU Update,*

I suspect your car has had an ECU update at its last service,

But check next time it is serviced, and ask for this,

(Unless you are having a Remap Obviously.)

George is right, i was saying im doing a 600 mile round trip, and if my car can get 45mpg+ all the way home i will be happy

like i said above, 300-350 miles to a tank will do me. any more than that and i'll be over the moon.

My old ford would do around 240 going very steady to a tank so would need to refil on the way down!!

See you have done it again, another great answer. if there was a 'rep' button i would literally hit it on every one of your posts!

Yeah i have heard revo SUCK! which is weird seeing as they are such a large company, a friend of a friend had the computerised clutch slip kicking in after a bit of abuse due to the map.

I'll look into this APR Map, have you got a link to where you can get this you could send me via PM?

Maybe have a word here on Remaps.

http://starperformance.co.uk

Edinburgh-Loanhead if going APR.

Maybe give it a year before you do anything that will Void you Warranty.

Put in good oil and good fuel just and see how it behaves,

It will improve as the miles go on.

Upgrade the spark plugs, brake pads, brake fluid, suspension & Tyres first.

Avoids voiding Warranty on Engine/Gearbox.

Yes george, tbh, i am driving this car like an old man, i think it may be the automatic gearbox but my driving has been so different to the previous cars i have owned, i think im enjoying being civil. It would just be nice to give it a little bit more go at some point in the future.

I actually have my car booked in for some warranty work (knock from rear suspension area!) so will enquire about the latest update. what is the difference between updates?

When i picked the car up it had brand new disks and pads so that sorted for a year or so!

front tyres are getting down a little bit (only thing i didnt check!) so will be looking at replacing all 4 with some better tyres at the time. (they do like to wheel spin these cars dont they! tbh its not even half as bad as the ford was for getting off the line!)

I will take your advice :)

Important IMO.

When driving in Aberdeen,. Dry weather or wet,  Switch the TC OFF at the start of journeys.

(In Edinburgh on cobbles etc, Essential to put TC off.

So also important for Aberdeen Rat Runs.)

Wheel Spin, loss of traction, and gaining traction, (ESP, XDS,) Banging Diff type noises and power cut is embbarrasing, as is a Micra out dragging you on Anderson Drive.

(Haudagain Roundabout)

Then good tyres on the Front as a boon..

?? What tyres are on, ??

switch the Fronts to the Rear maybe until you get new tyres.

& be sure if Directional, like Dunlop Sport Maxx, they stay on the same side, when changed front to rear,)

PS.

Forget 'S' apart from if you want it for decelerating.(dropping a few (2) gears and then stick back to 'D'.)

I use it like that in Town, or back roads, and on ice/snow/wet/damp etc.

Or do Manual Downships.

'D' does nice quick up shifts. IMO

Oh god George, tell me about it. since having my C1 which didnt have traction control, i always drive with it turned off, it gets in the way too much, even driving in a sensible manor!

I honestly cant remember what tyres are currently on the car. Good idea changing them to the back! i forgotten that i have a jack in this car!

Yeah i was planning on going to Goodyear asymetrics/toyo t1r's or something similar.

Good that the Discs and Pads were changed, the wheels will not be welded on.

You will just need to plaster about with the jack, spare on.

Other wheel off, changed. then spare off other wheel on, etc,

I use a Trolley jack, but carefully with its placement.

If you are at the Sills,  Skoda Jack to be used only.

I hope the tweezers are there for taking the Nut Covers off.

Maybe worth getting to know a good tyre place in Aberdeen, & go pay £10 into the tea money for the front to rear wheel change.

(or save the Tenner and get the exrecise.)

Hi George!

yeah they changed it all with proper stuff, by the looks of it they didnt do it on the cheap!

i checked the tyres, i have 3 yes three continental sport maxx 2's and one pirelli something or other, i cant remember, all seem to be in good nick but the fronts are down a tad more than the rears.

I will just swap them around outside of mine at the weekend, it saved me wrecking through 2 tyres :)

the spare wheel, jack and tools look to have never been used so i hope the tweezers are there :)

I really need to get myself a proper jack and some stands at some point!

Im thinking about removing some sound deadening from the SC while im at it this weekend!
