just drove a Type r

Its not is it lol.

He was quite surprised i think. They both pulled onto a dual carriageway, he floored his 335d expecting to leave the fabia.

It came flying past him though and left him in a great cloud of black smoke haha.

Did the vtec not kick in yo?

  • How many of the Fabia boys have actually owned BOTH. A Fabia and a CTR or just had a 2 minute play in a CTR, not driven it properly then gone back to cloud 9 thinking the Fabia is a godly car with no

  • It's all down to how you drive them.  The easy power of a diesel or remapped turbo petrol feels faster lower down, but when you live with one then you get used to it and drive accordingly.  I agree

Hes selling the 335d to get another Cherokee. More space for the dogs aha.

Im guessing he wasn't in sport mode (move lever to the left)

A 335d takes a hell of a beating

Fabia would have to be over 300bhp to pull away like you mention.

And there is only a handfull in the UK capable of that. Maybe even only one. And its silver in colour and from devon

I dno. He knows how to drive it though. Hes a pretty good driver.

Doesnt the fabia weigh alot less than a 3 series?

Im just going off what he said. Hes a very honest guy though, and would have no reason to say it how it wasnt lol.

Hes got a fireblade in the garage. That woulda sorted it haha.

I did a wee calc

For them to be even fabia has to have 234bhp

335d weight = 1580kg

Bhp = 281

Bhp per tonne = 177.8

Fabia weight = 1315kg

Bhp = 234

Bhp per tonne = 177.9

So fabia would have to be running 260bhp+ to embarass it.

But then you have the 0-60mph with the beemer at about 5.8s.

Even after all that id still rather have the 335d. And if a fabia were to embarass it a nice cheeky remap on the 335d and your sorted

Musta been a pretty sorted fabia then mate. I dont know how easy it is to get that kind of power from the fab. Obv it takes more than just a remap though haha.

If rather have the 335 too. Id have them over a lot of cars. It was a really nice car tbh. Shame his dogs dont like it

The most underwhelming and frustrating car Ive ever driven

No torque and totally draining to drive fast...due to having to rev it hard all the time

There seems to be plenty of helpful folk at www.civinfo.com and www.type-r-owners.co.uk if interested in making it work properly.

Personally for fun, I'm interested in a DS3 rather than the usual mini route.

At the end of the day... Toyota has made everyone that drives zillion horsepower cars ,a bit of a w%#ker...Enter the GT86.

Designed for petrolheads that know how to drive... Rescuing the slow dying Vtec market (which I'm from... 2 S2000's and an Accord Type R in my ownership). Shame these days that it's all gone whoooooosh for a market that thinks power is everything. It isn't. Ironically turbos are increasingly common for emissions but it allows Mr ordinary to remap with more devastating power output results. Accidents will be on the increase, with all this power tweakidge. So will insurance. I mean... What's the point! You get better fun, in a sorted 1.8 MX5.

No its undriveable as there is no torque and the rev band is just plain stoopid!

Low down torque and this new awesome invention of the dual mass flywheel is the future

;) lol

Integra Type R is STILL the reigning champion. The Civic EP3 was missing the LSD that gave the 'teg it's rail handling reputation.

Enter the Gt86/BRZ  need to rev them, switch off electrics, fit with poor tyres, great fun, great reviews.

Car reviewers do not buy them, just hype them, car of the year, back to the future,

real drivers cars etc.

To drive safe and enjoy the car, private buyers find they need better tyres, and to rev them. and the MPG is pretty poor, as is performance in the real world, even with UK NSL's.

So now there are Performance Mods available. People want handling and usable go.

& plenty  Ex Demonstrators are sitting in Dealers not selling,

& the Residuals is an Artificial thing,

until some can hold on no more and need to sell those 18 month olds for what they can get for them.

Plenty of lurkers waiting for the depreciation bell to ring true.. its still a cheap car without the depreciation, considering the fun you can have in the Toyota. I wasnt smitten on the rear end of the thing (GT86), it looks a bit of a mess at the back but the front, side angles and poise are spot on. TRD have got involved for the more power hungry, and listened to owners crys of needing that little bit more ooomph out the corners (which it does so well). TRD sticking quad exhausts out the back though is rather Halfords-esque for me. A bit like Alfa's Brera. It ain't no Ferrari and looks a little bit silly. Stay with just one pipe each side, it's better looking and shows enough purpose. 4 exhausts only look right on a few cars.

There's more than a handful of buyers on the S2000 forum, head over and read some very honest, direct reviews (these are people I know well too). It's more than positive. There's a very long thread about the GT86. Unfortunatley you see, and than was the earlier point, you don't need 300-400 horsepower to willy wave being the best on the road. Fun should be about handling.

What happens alot in our motoring petrolhead community, every day, are posts about 0-60's, drag times, with little regard to skill. Skill to keep the thing on the road, with 'cap turned 'round, I might add! Then inevitably, things wear out quicker, things break, people crash without uprating other items. People moan about reliability etc. Then they move on, ditch what was already a good car but "never looked after it" syndrome. They get bored... It's my pet hate!

I think Toyota noticed that. I wish the other manufacturers would take note, it might just all change for the better.

Have you bought one of these that do not depreciate much?

Because they actually depreciated quiet a lot and bargains can be had if you have not got one already.

£16,500 - £17,000 will get you a 2 year old one, (including Automatics)

*That is from Toyota Main Dealerships, not 'Kerbside Autos'.*

so that is a 33% depreciation they have suffered.

Since there were many less BRZ's available compared to the GT86 they are holding their prices slightly better, (Automatics are scarce)

or it is just that sellers are 'Asking More', but you can still get a bargain on them.

Sellers 'Asking Prices'. is not what  'Buyers Might Offer', or actually pay for them.

Cars have moved on a bit from the 90's when just having moderate power in a light chassis = lots of fun. Cars are a lot heavier hence they need lots more power to get the same result.

I like my Fabia it does everything I need it to do with ease but yet it just lacks character and excitement. The best car I have driven still to this day is my old Mk2 Golf 16v, could hold it's own against most things (including a very embarrassed rx-8 owner lol) and just put a smile on my face everytime.

If you want fun and a lot of satisfaction just buy an older classic and spend the money you would have spent buying a newer more expensive car, on restoring and improving an old classic.

I had a B18 varient, 1.8 VTi, basically a slug like type r in a rover shell, and do you know what, I loved it. You could kick its head in every time you drove it and time and time again it accepted it. It had done 104k when I bought it doctor owned 23 service stamps, the fan heater on number one was louder than the running engine. Miss that car, but not the rover under pinnings.

Having owned several vtec Honda's I have to disagree with the original poster, although some of it is based on personal preference. With the vtec engines, you have to rev them, which for me is the fun part. You can drive it around normally, and when you want some fun you engage vtec. My previous car was an Accord Type R, the Civic Type R and Accord Type R are very evenly matched.

Round a track, there is no doubt the Civic Type R would beat a mapped Skoda VRS, let alone a standard one. You can spout torque figures all you like but the fact is the Civic will be quicker in a straight line and round corners.

The VRS is great because the power is more usable so is probably the better option for the commuter. For speed and fun the vtec engines are hard to beat.

Bought a new type r in 2004....

Good build quality n nice gearbox but never got used to the engine

Ok for the 1 in 10 'psycho' days and one day a year track day

Rest of time just annoying

Needed back doors for new child in '06 and swapped for fab vrs

Laughed all the way home and overtook everything in sight (sensibly) for a claimed 53mpg

Never looked back

I am thinking about buying an s2000

Do it. I drove one a few weeks ago and it was awesome. My rwd experience is very limited but I jumped straight in and drifted it like a King, it was a very forgiving car. It'd be high up on my shopping list if I had more money and a bigger driveway.

Owned 2 S2000's in my car owning history. Great cars, feel quicker than they are and are very reliable. In 3 and a half years total ownership between both cars (2000 & facelift 2002), just had one wheel bearing go on me. Quite frugal on petrol when you drive it carefully, frantic and exciting when you want to loon it.

Lots of tatty ones about for 4k that can be bought to revive ...

Apparently, there has never been an (internal) engine failure of any VTEC engine worldwide. Not sure if that is an urban legend, but would not surprise me in the least if it were true.

It is... complete boll$%£ks!

There have been many failures on all the Honda forums. Check 08-09 S2000's, many have suffered engine failure at less than 5,000 miles. Supposed design flaw...

Honda wont accept responsibility officially..  :@

My mate blew his dc5 teg up at 30k

Tbh those 30k it was never off the redline
