It wouldn't matter if I was on a r1 and beat a civic it would still get dismissed with **** excuses. May have to get my dad to sell his porsche and get one to talk a good race

Did the vtec not kick in yo?

  • How many of the Fabia boys have actually owned BOTH. A Fabia and a CTR or just had a 2 minute play in a CTR, not driven it properly then gone back to cloud 9 thinking the Fabia is a godly car with no

  • It's all down to how you drive them.  The easy power of a diesel or remapped turbo petrol feels faster lower down, but when you live with one then you get used to it and drive accordingly.  I agree

Here we go again haha. Embarrassed many a type R's in my mapped Fabia. Pushing them way over 100 (private road of course ) but the fact is, the civic was made to be driven hard and handle well, which it does. The Fabia is a warm hatch, a custom mapped Fabia providing it's not a 165bhp generic map will beat a civic in a straight line, hands down but chuck in some twistys and bye bye diesel

Hang on, is this thread now turning into my Dad's harder than your Dad?

No its turning into why buy a super car when you can never lose a race in a civic type r

I couldn't make a fabia handle like a civic type r no matter how much money I spent, fancy diffs, bushes, wishbones, suspension, tyres etc couldn't change the laws of physics. As for straight line performance you need a hybrid turbo to match one because a remap can't put you in the running in a straight line. That said I can't stand vtec no facts to back it up just my personal feelings.

a remapped mk1 Fabia vRS is still slow in a straight line and doesn't do corners. but it gets good mpg and the soft-touch dash feels nice

Agreed you need a hybrid blower to stick with in a straight line

A mapped fabia will annoy a type r but after 80mph the mapped fabia is all but dead in the water.

The fact is we should be comparing standard vs. standard.

This mapped vs standard is an unfair comparison. Slap a supercharger on a type r then find the conclusion

I find a turbo or a supercharger on a vtec changes everythin, I then start to really really like vtec

Fabia is a tepid hatch in standard guise. Yes you can make them go well and handle well but your still not one of the worlds largest car manufacturers who can make the car handle well out the box so to speak

You can't make them handle well, I tried everything and it still wouldn't go round a corner anything like a decent handling car

Ok... You can make them handle better.

Oops miss read that lol

This thread was always doomed to failure since the off!!

I've had many an experience with CTR's in various states of tune, from around 165bhp to 220bhp, and in a straight line mine was bang on the same at about 200bhp. This is in a straight line only!!! One of the main reasons that I'm putting mine back to standard and selling up is that the chassis on the Fabia is just not good. It does not inspire any confidence in the corners, and more importantly it is not fun and engaging to drive. Ultimately, it was not designed this way, and will never be as good to drive as a CTR which was designed from the off to be a focused driver's car.

In my opinion, a tuned Fabia is a fantastic compromise! Ultimately, I'm now back at the stage where I want a higher powered petrol engined car with a better chassis in my life again. However, I'm having to do this at the expense of running costs, which I'm accepting. I wouldn't buy an EP3 purely on the image they have now earned however. Unfortunately, this type of image appears to be creeping into Fabia vRS Mk1's as well these days... another reason for selling up.

Honda engines are fantastic in all fairness! How many have they had back over the years...!? I would absolutely love an ITR DC5 with a Jackson Racing supercharger conversion. VTEC with forced induction would be very special indeed :)

Came on inter webs for Briskoda but seem to have logged onto Max Power. I'm off to Halfords for some new alloys and a big sub for my boot.

Even if they are a little faster, i still wouldnt have one.

I just dont like vtec. It doesnt suit my driving style

I'll be test riding a vfr800 vtec at some point though. See if it works for me on a bike

A Civic Type R is what it is its got lots of rpm and not so much torgue

A Mk1 Fabia is the opposit lots of torque but not enough RPM per gear.

The Civic handles beter but jesus do you pay for it in ride comfort, I have only ever been in one more uncomfortable car which was a lowered Toyota Celica and its also VVTI engine. While VVTI does give you lots of RPM its never in the right gear and being in one in traffic is just painful.

It about finding the compromise that suits you, plus if someone wants to drive like a (insert expletive of your own choice here) let them. Rise above their stupidity or they will just drag you down to their level and use their experiance to win.

Wait until the new type r come out and compare it to the new fabia vrs

:)

For me, its all about torque in the useable rpm.

For my best mate, he just loves an engine that screams everywhere.

Its all about taste and driving style.

Also. Be careful how much you annoy people when your driving. You might just find out how much bigger he is than you at the next set of lights haha.

BigJase,

Why would you compare a new car in 2015 at double the price with 100 bhp more,

to a Skoda model that has discontinued after 4 years of production with so so handling.?

Can't believe the comparisons being chucked up here. A proper hot hatch vs a bargain diesel.

Really?

100bhp more? Are they? I thought they were around the 220-230bhp mark?

I dont know mate. I havent looked into it.

I was just surprised they were giving it that much poke haha

Same reason the old civic type r gets compared to a fabia vrs

I was just saying compare the new civic type r with the NEW fabia vrs

:)
