Clear up my thoughts on Green panel filters and Seat strut Brace.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a couple of questions on the following.

Green Panel Filter. Loads of peeps on here have them. Are they all the same, or by different manufacturers?

If so does anyone have part numbers, suppliers and prices.

I am going to ring DT later today, but want to know if there are several different types, versions.

Seat Ibiza Upper Strut. Part NO 6L0071710

Does this require drilling, or do you just need to remove exisiting bolts, fit and reuse the bolts.

Yippee, already starting to spend my tuning budget :D

Thanks in advance

Lee

Green is the Manufacturer, I believe K&N do one too that is the next most popular

I think you take three of the bolts out and reuse them to fit this. I haven't bought it yet, I wanna get a torque wrench first - which doubles the cost :( .

Strut brace is a straight fit, no real probs, no drilling, using existing bolts.

Green panel filters are all the same - made by green just quote DT your car model and you'r onto a winner

OK !! BOTTOM LINE HERE !!

1. Does the fitting of a green filter make any noticable difference? Or is it just psychological?

2. Will the fitting of the Ibiza Air intake make even more noticable difference?

3. Will the strut brace improve steering / grip etc. If so, in what way?

1. Do a search

I am not being a noob, but there has been lots of in depth threads on all of the above, and if you want the best answer possible then doing a search will give you more than enough info :)

IMHO ;)

1. No - more noise but no extra power or torque. Main advantage is it an be cleaned rather than chucked and replaced

2. Apparently so, but I didn't do this on mine to comment

3. No - more for looks than any real handling gain, although coupled with a lower strut brace it may be better. Personally, I'd put the money towards a set of Eibach springs and dampers which transform the car ;)

Where abouts are you Mort, I have a healthy selection of Torque wrench's you can borrow if near the North West?

East Midlands - Derby. Probably a bit far for a wrench! But wouldn't mind some model numbers/make advice if you got some with a large range. Some things seem to need small amounts like 25nm and then others 120nm. So I'd rather get a couple with big ranges than a dozen with small ones. I really should try and get some mechanical knowledge to go with them too :D .

Mort - I seem to remember a master tech on here saying that a torque wrench wasn't really nessecerry, and as tight as you can get it will be fine...

1) I guess it doesn't make that much of a difference to the power or torque but it does help it breathe abit better

2) With this and the greenfilter my fabia pulled 10bhp more in standard form so yes it does make a difference albeit it a small one. But if you choose to re-map the car it will make more of a difference.

3) It makes the car seem a little more planted and not so wollie if that makes sense. Have to say I had mine off for awhile when I re-sprayed it. It made my car feel very weird and I didn't feel happy pushing it but then mine isn't standard.

Like me old mucker Walkie said do a search as well as your'll get more info

Yeah, I always worry though :D knowing very little about the mechanical aspect of cars I'd feel better knowing I'd got some proof it's 'tight enough'.

But then again... I am poor........

And on topic.. The Filter and Intake has made my car feel a lot nicer to drive, even if I haven't noticed any increased power. I mainly did both mods to try and stop the diesel smoke, which my car seems to like doing. But it didn't seem to help.

it's probably the weather matey, even my old Rover 418 was smokey last night even at idle which it does do normally  when it's cooler your'll notice a difference.

I've now named my fabia "Smokey Joe"

Chris mate, wasn't your fabia a non Vrs PD100? You always say the strut and filter etc don't have any improvement, but are you talking about on your old car? If so how relevant is that to a Vrs with different suspension and engine power/map etc. Most people with the Vrs find them excellent mods

The Cupra intake makes the 'sudden' boost at 2k a lot smoother and allows easier revving up to the redline (if wanted).

Strut seemed to tighten up the steering a bit. Doesn't alter body roll or anything like that though.

Green filter - more airflow than the paper one, and you can clean it :) You could probably achieve similar results by buying the paper one and chucking it more regularly than the normal intervals though, in fairness.

Can't say i've noticed any difference with a green panel filter, Infact its still in the garage waiting for a clean (done 10K) but done really see the point in fitting it.

Cupra intake pipe. Not used one yet.

Upper strut brace. Not fitted it yet. Only had it almost a year.

Lower strut brace. Makes a big differnce. You notice it straight away. Just got to find one that fits right. The Weichers one hits the bottom of the engine. Believe OMP does one but very hard to source.

I'd say the PD100 and PD130 are fairly similar - the PD100 is less nose-heavy which may be a factor and has a slightly narrower anti-roll bar, but if anything, the vRS I've driven had more body roll than mine!

I came from a Scooby turbo with perfectly weighted steering and on standard suspension. It had next to no body roll and excellent feel, so I guess that's my reference, and adding the strut brace to the Fabia did not transform the car or make a noticeable difference to me. Also, adding a Green panel filter to the Scooby made a very noticeable difference, unlike the Fabia which just changed the induction noise.

Personally, I don't think getting an extra 10bhp on Jabba's rollers for the price of the panel filter and intake is really worth it, but hey, all I'm doing is offering an opinion  It's not my money ;)

Chris (goes off hide behind his Ford )

Interesting Faboka - any helpful hinst on sourcing the lower brace ?

Just to throw my thoughts into the mixer -

I think the brace does make a differance and is well worth the money.

I also think the Green filter / Intake combination is worthwhile, smoothens things out and those with maps seem to get a little bit more. Jabba now stock these items and recommend them for mapping I believe.

I thought JBS were gonna have a go at sourcing the lower SB.

Chris (goes off hide behind his Ford )(

that box aint gonna save u they tend to run me over (or try to) :( only cus i have a skoda

I guess everything is down to opinion really, on my old car (no turbo) to get 10bhp extra would have cost hundreds of quid

The upper strut brace does nothing for the handling, but helps communicate what the car is doing to the driver a lot more. If you drive twisties fast and regular it's really a worthwhile addition.

Seat strut brace looks nice too. - Dead easy to fit as well.

Just watch out as sometimes the airbox vibrates against the bottom of it, and can produce hell of an annoying rattle... Took me a while to figure out what it was when mine started doing that. Bit of foam sorted it out though.

So me giving them the part numbers helped them..............damn I should ahve got commission on that one lol
